Sparda Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 No, thats more likly o be a firewall or ISP problem. How are you tring to connect to the FreeNAS computer from the Internet? Quote
Brennan Posted October 29, 2006 Author Posted October 29, 2006 wired if that is what you mean but I would like to get this done soon so if you could IM me at AIM:RED WIND03 Quote
VaKo Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 If you want to use it outside of your LAN, you'll need port forwarding etc, and you won't be able to type freenas on any computer outside of your lan. Quote
Brennan Posted October 29, 2006 Author Posted October 29, 2006 I know that I set up the port forwarding and I tried doing it outside my lan w/filezilla Quote
VaKo Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 Lock the machine down and stick it in the DMZ? Or VPN into the network for the WAN transfers, should make it far more secure. Quote
Brennan Posted October 29, 2006 Author Posted October 29, 2006 cant my router dosent detect the server Quote
VaKo Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 Explain that. If it has an valid IP address, its "detected". Quote

Sparda Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 How would you expect the router to detect the IP address? Quote
VaKo Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 Whats the routers IP and whats the machines IP? What happens with you ping the freenas box? Quote
Brennan Posted October 29, 2006 Author Posted October 29, 2006 How would you expect the router to detect the IP address? when I plug in a computer or my xbox into the router it always comes up woth the mac address and the ip Whats the routers IP and whats the machines IP? What happens with you ping the freenas box? The modem/router is 192.168.1.1 and my d-link switch/router is 192.168.0.1 and then the machine's is 192.168.0.22 Quote
VaKo Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 And if you run nmap on 192.168.0.22? You don't need your router to detect it, you just need to be able to communicate with it. And have you set portforwarding on both routers? Quote
