lensimm
Hi, Is there any way I can insert a message between two old messages on WhatsApp, to make it appear as though that message was sent at the time, rather than now? I want the other person in the conversation to see the message as well, not just me. If it helps, I'm using a Samsung galaxy s4 mini with android. Thanks
Mr-Protocol
I'm not sure why you would want to do that, but I'm going to say no unless I'm proven wrong.
lensimm
Well I hope you are! Though I can see how it seems impossible... It's kind of a long story, to do with an argument with a friend.
cooper
I'd be AMAZED (and very VERY disappointed) if the timestamp of your message was determined by you. If you set back the date on your phone and send an app to someone, does it show your doctored date?
lensimm
No, I'm quite sure the time is based on the other person's phone.
cooper
Not the network itself (i.e. the WA servers) putting it in?
Mr-Protocol
I am sure I could figure out how to fabricate it pretty easily on the devices if I had both (for the scenario explained in the OP). But to send over the wire that way is not something you could do IMO.
Adam Ierymenko
WhatsApp encrypts with a single hard-coded never-changing global AES key, so it's basically plain text. Probably wouldn't be hard to do this.
bytedeez
Why not try some social engineering and take a screen shot of the original message and photo edit the added text. Just make sure to pay attention to every detail
