Connection Issues

I am having issues connecting to my pineapple V via ethernet. I set my ip to 172.16.42.42/24 and tried other addresses in the subnet. I am also unable to get a dhcp address. I can however connect to it just fine via wifi and mange it that way. Latest firmware and everything. If I put it in recovery mode (or whatever it's called to upload the new stager) I can connect in the 192 range. So I know the ethernet port is functional! Any insight guys? Thanks!

172.16.42.42 at 255.255.255.0 is what the eht0 port is set to. That's it... no dhcp unless you've done some serious tweaking of your network settings. If you set that up and getting to the management page gives you an error, tell us what error you get. What happens when you try to ping?

Thanks for your reply!

Ok I set my IP to 172.16.42.2 and tried to ping 42. It just times out.

My manual that came with the pineapple says to plug in an ethernet cable and it will assign a dhcp addressin the 172.16.42.0/24 range. It then says to go the the pineapple admin page at 172.16.42.1:1471. Or "Alternatively, you can assign your computer the static address 172.16.42.42/24. That's why I was doing it the way I was.

If I try it the way they suggested, even with a static on my PC, I can't ping 172.16.42.1.

Are you guys seeing the network being reported as "Network Cable Unplugged" ?

If so this looks like a major problem that is affecting quite a few units. I'm smelling a QC problem.

I'm now faced with a massive hike in purchase costs (to return the unit, and pay further charges for the replacement) or just binning it. Either will leave a sour taste. :-(

Can you connect via wifi, go to the Pineapple home screen. select the network box so that it lists all of the details (it'll show a bunch of text separated out against "eth0", "lo", "wlan0" and "wlan1"). Copy and paste that text here...

St3v3 and google_pro,

There is a new firmware out. If you can get to your Management page via the wlan0 broadcasted Access Point please use Client Mode to Connect to an Internet Connected Access Point and perform the firmware update. Then let us know if you are still having problems. Also, if you are still having issues don't keep using the same ethernet cable or same computer if you can help it... Also, try posting screenshots of your computers ipconfig information or screenshots of the applicable Configuration screens. Again, only if you're still having issues.

Are you still having issues? Have you tried a different ethernet cable? If you haven't already please reach out to shop@hak5.org. If it is an ethernet issue we'll want the unit back to investigate/send back to the factory/make changes to the line. Very sorry for the inconvenience. We'll make it right.

Yes sir, it was usually showing as cable unplugged. Even when I got it to show it was connected, I couldn't connect or find any devices in that network range with an IP scan. I mailed the unit in to you and noted to please test it or the replacement unit before mailing it back. I know you're busy but I hope someone can verify that I will get a properly functioning unit. I'm really excited to use my pineapple.
