I have connected my USB TTL serial adapter to my pineapple MK5 and no matter what I have tried I just seem to get garbage characters from the device.

I Only have the first 3 pins connected.....

GND | RX | TX

I connected this same usb ttl adapter to another router I have it it works fine.

It's your baud rate. I'm not sure what the baud is on the Mark V, but try the common ones and see if you can figure it out.

9600
14400
19200
28800
38400
56000
57600
115200
Chances are it will be either the top one or the last one in that list.

It's 115200
