ijnnji
I have been using an older 3g card. (Virgin Mobile Novatel MC760 Broadband2Go USB) I use it with my Wi-Fi pineapple and other various things. It is just a pay as you go kind of deal so you can use cash and stay somewhat anonymous. I have not topped up this 3g card for a few months though. I am running Kali linux and connect the card with either wvdail or network-manager. Once the card is connected and you open a browser, you can get to google, run a search, but then you are locked out and have to login to topup your data plan. The fact that you can get that far before you are locked out got me thinking... what else can I do? I tried to ping 8.8.8.8, and nothing happened. I tried wget, angain nothing happened. Then just for shits I tried an nmap scan, and it totally works!! For some reason I can run nmap scans with a 3g card I have not payed for in months. I ran several namp scans and it just keeps on working. I would like to know if others can replicate this result. I would also like to know if anyone has an idea of why this is working and what other way we can have some fun with it.

It might work similar to a captive portal and you might be able to tunnel traffic through port 53 or something. I don't know i have never had a 3G dongle. triphazard
try nmaping something that you KNOW the ports from. There is a good chance you're only nmaping the captive portal. Have you tried wget with IP address? Keep in mind, if you find your way out, a few nice men who used to work for bell-atlantic might get in touch with you.
