Shotgun2197
So I have been looking all over and can't find a solid setup for my situation, and I was hoping the community could help.So I am looking into buying a few things, including an Alfa AWUS036H, and was wondering what all I would need. So first off I will be using the card for both my PC and my Nexus 7. I am guessing the card will drain my Nexus 7 if I ever do use it on there, so I am looking into buy a battery pack similar to the pineapple juice. What else would I need to use the pack to power the card, and still use the card with my Nexus 7. Would the USB hub cable in the hak5 store be sufficient? If that cable would work, what would the setup be? What would plug in where? If there is something wrong with my situation, please help me and correct me. I would appreciate suggestions. ThanksEDIT: Another thing I would like to know is, what is a great battery that you would suggest? I am just trying to get everything straight before I invest. EDIT 2: I will probably just go with the 036NHA from the hak5 store. Edited June 21, 2013 by Shotgun2197
ChimeraSecurity
To power the card from an external source and connect to your other device you would need a USB Y cable, on one end you have two USBs (Data & Power) the other end connects to the card. Off the top of my head I don't know how much the card will draw, I use a 12000mAh battery pack to power the Raspberry Pi & the Alfa card and I get 8hrs+ While looking for a suitable power pack, all I did was look at reviews for those emergency mobile phone chargers, just make sure you get one that has enough juice to run the card for as long as you need it. I will be putting something up on my blog in the next few days along these lines. Keep an eye out for it. -J http://www.chimera-security.com
Shotgun2197
Thanks for all that. I will be watching your blog for sure!Since the Alfa card uses 5V, would I need a battery with a 5V output? Could you supply me with the model you use, since it works for you.For the Y-cable, could I just get this? http://hakshop.myshopify.com/products/usb-powered-hubThe battery would be red, Alfa on black, and then phone on other side? Would it matter which female adapter I plugged it into? EDIT: I was looking at that cable a little more. Would the Alfa card go into the mini port, and the black on top would be my tablet?
