MR. M
If i team 2 or more NIC's, does each nic still keep their pysical ip address even though virtual one has been created? Am asking this because i currently have a Windows Server 2012 Server with a Dual Gigabit PCI-X card with an IP set on each ethernet port, and each one is linked to an FTP server. am wondering if i do the NIC teaming will this conflict with the dedicated ftp servers. Thanks
decepticon_eazy_e
The NIC teaming is usually done by the 3rd party software, like Intel or Broadcom. On both of those, the individual addresses disappear and you have one shared address. Unless you add secondary IPs to the team, of course. Check the software that will do your teaming and you'll find out.
wwalker327
Sounds like your nics are bound to two different networks? Are u using vlans? If you are using different vlans you have a couple different options. Either get another pci dual port nic and team one nic from each card to the other and assign each team the ips you are currently using. Next option would be to get your network team to trunk both vlans to the two ports and team the nics with vlan tagging. You will be able to tag traffic to different virtual nics and assign the ips to each. If the ips are on the same network you can do like the other guy said and just team the nics and add both ips to the nic.
loosebit
Question: Why do you want to use a NIC team in your config? @deception Server 2012 has native NIC teaming (finally)
