d1000 Posted February 4, 2013 Author Posted February 4, 2013 Just a few observations.... 1) It would be fair to say that a Pineapple is not in the same class as an IPhone. An IPhone is a consumer product. If my overpriced IPhone doesn't work properly, I'll politely complain, and expect a solution. A pineapple is more specialized, requires some skill to use, and is not for everybody. 2) While you may have paid for the hardware, the software is a separate, open source product. 3) It's nice and generous thing that some people are willing to help people for free with open source software. 4) Constantly saying a 'Product' is bad, defective, etc. , more than actually trying to find a solution yourself, is likely not the smartest way to encourage people to help you. There may be situations where acting like a bully is required, and might get results. This doesn't seem like one of those situations. Just my 2 cents. Thanks for your opinion. 1) far from comparing with a product like iphone, but for me this is a overpriced product when does not deliver what is suppost to. 2) I did not pay for HW alone, read the Hak5 site and you will find that you are buying a product with a hak framework in it. Thats the all purpose of the product. If not BT5 would do the work for me. 3) Agree with you, but this is my opinion regarding the stable of the product and not the good will of the comunity. 4) The purpose of a forum is to let other folks now what they can expect if they buy the product. This is not beeing bully or "smartass", thats my 5cents like you give yours. I remember that I'm trying to solved this for weeks, and with more than 200 dolars spend with no return at all. Over and out. Cheers. D1000 Quote
Whistle Master Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Pretty sure no one has gotten the internal sd card in 3g modems to work.Well, I did :pSee http://forums.hak5.org/index.php?/topic/26108-huawei-modems-with-a-pineapple-iv/page-2#entry203753 Quote

In 2.7.5 the pen model is detected now with diferent model and the ajustment in 3g script does not work. Always returning "usb-modeswitch: switching seemingly failed". Where can I reach the 2.7.0 without OTA? Would like to flash because without that I'm stuck in 2.7.5. Thxs Edited February 5, 2013 by d1000 Quote
Sebkinne Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Our website. You can use the OTA to get back to 2.7.0 though. Quote
CrackAlot Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Love the product and glad its not an iphone. ;) The best thing about the pineapple is how many different configurations you can try. What works for some may not work for others, but if you give up trying, you may never find what works best for you. Thanks Hak5 and WM for the awesome stuff. I get excited when I see a new module of phish site that someone has shared, gives me something to do with my boring days at work. cp Quote

Hate Apple lol In my case, just loosing most of the battles with my Pineapple from day 1, but hey still fighting with it! The end of war is still far! Hoping for a stable 2.8.0 that could fixe some of my issues with USB. :) Quote

I made an attempt to get the sdcard working when I first had a 3g modem. But didn't have any luck. This should be noted in the 3g part of the wiki or something. Will try it tonight when I get home. d1000 Posted February 8, 2013 Author Posted February 8, 2013 (edited) Hi guys, Like I said before, one of the diferences between the modem behavior in 2.7.5. and 2.7.0 is the model. in 2.7.5. USB Connections Bus 001 Device 002: ID 12d1:1446 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. E1552/E1800/E173 (HSPA modem)Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub In 2.7.0. Execute: ls /dev/tty*/dev/tty/dev/ttyATH0/dev/ttyS0 In 2.7.0. Execute: ls/dev/tty*/dev/tty/dev/ttyATH0/dev/ttyS0/dev/ttyUSB0/dev/ttyUSB1/dev/ttyUSB2 Because I needed to work with 3G pen, I downgrade to 2.7.0. and everything is working with 3g pen connectivity. Hope it helps debbugging 2.7.5. Cheers, D1000 Edited February 8, 2013 by d1000 Quote

haroo Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 my pineapple wont power up a 4gb cruzer fit without a powered usb hub. there is nothing you can do about the sketckyness of usb other than a powered hub. most usb hubs run on 5V 1 A was the battery unit you hooked it to set for 9 or 12V was the polarity of the barrel connector right? i bought a small belkin usb hub for mine as like i said it wouldnt even mount sda1 and sda2 without it. the pineapple is a low power device and cant power much. if i use my 12V adapter on the pineapple my flash drive will work without a hub. but if i power it from ANY 5v source such as bat pack or usb port off laptop i need my hub. i power my hub off of my bat pack. i have a 6600mah batt pack with 2 usb ports. one port powers the pineapple and the other powers the hub. so far i have not had any issues with this setup. i have my flash drive and alfa running great off that setup. no issues. it seems to me that the usb issues you are having are normal as its the same as what i went through when i got mine. there is a steep learning curve with these things and researching hardware setups is part of that curve. hope that helps Haroo Quote

Regarding the powered hub, I didn't check the polarity :( will buy a new one and check that. Can you point me to your especific model and let me know if you needed to invert yours? Do you juice it at 9 or 12v? Absolutly agree about the curving learn, still learning to deal with power and usb issues in pineapple. Thanks! Quote

Absolutly agree about the curving learn, still learning to deal with power and usb issues in pineapple. Thanks! I will take a look at the model for you when i have a chance. i power my hub via usb off of a usb port from my batt back. as far as i know most / all usb hubs will be 5V 1-2A as native usb power is 5V. when you get a new one take a look at what voltage it requires. it should say on the package or on the bottom of the usb hub. as for my cable to power it. i was going to cut a usb cable and the end off my ac adaptor that came with them and home brew that with a soldering iron and some heat shrink but i was lucky and had a power cable from a blutooth headset i had that was the same size barrel connector on one end and usb on the other so i didnt have to frankenstein anything to make it work. most barrel power connectors are pos in the centre and neg on the outside but some devices are ass backwards to take a look. you can confirm your polairity with a multimeter useing a simple conductivity test. should be centre to center and outside to outside in your case. i think overvoltage is what cooked your usb hub if you were feeding it 9-12Vdc how did the new FW help you? d1000 Posted February 19, 2013 Author Posted February 19, 2013 Fstab, change to sdb1 and sdb2 Follow this guide. -Foxtrot Many thanks to both. Seb, It was actually really the sda/sdb setting. Foxtrot, I was following that article, but at the moment it doesn't appear as available in swap line. What information can help troubleshooting this issue? D1000 Quote
Foxtrot Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 Issue mkswap /dev/sdb2 (Presuming that sdb2 is the partition you want to be swap.) then set your fstab config to the one in the guide, but changing sda to sdb as Seb said. -Foxtrot Quote
d1000 Posted February 19, 2013 Author Posted February 19, 2013 Already did it, and the partition for swap does not appear like, so it look ok. Will try to follow this vÃdeo from one of our members just to my sure this is not a USER issue :p Quote
d1000 Posted February 19, 2013 Author Posted February 19, 2013 Lol ok IT WAS A USER ISSUE. (in my case, like almost every time!) In option anon_swap it is still set to 0, will try change to 1 when arrive home and let you guys know. Many thanks D1000 Quote
d1000 Posted February 20, 2013 Author Posted February 20, 2013 Well, it was the 1 in the fstab missing. Now swap works! Thanks people. Will dive now for sslstrip. Finallyyyyy! :) Quote
