When trying to get anything from opkg manager, nothing works. I'm updated to the newest firmware, and have full internet access.

However:

opkg update

fails with a 404:

root@Pineapple:~# opkg update

Downloading http://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/trunk/ar71xx/packages/Packages.gz.'>http://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/trunk/ar71xx/packages/Packages.gz.

wget: server returned error: HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found

Collected errors:

* opkg_download: Failed to download http://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/trunk/ar71xx/packages/Packages.gz,'>http://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/trunk/ar71xx/packages/Packages.gz, wget returned 1.

I've looked all over the forums for fixes, but most fixes just have to do with internet access. Mine, however, is fine. But when checking the link itself with curl, or even navigating to it in firefox, it always finds a 404. Never an internet access problem.

http://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/trunk/ar71xx/packages/

This is where I need to get the packages update from, and google even shows a 404, but google's cache is the only way I can view it.

Any and all help would be amazing, just got the pineapple for my birthday and would love to be able to get it up and running.

-TM.

Bad timing man, that package repository was fine yesterday. OpenWRT really ought to have a mirror - I think once it come back online I'll email a dev and offer to host one. For the time being, however, there isn't much you can do - that's the only location of the OpenWRT packages as far as I know so you'll just have to wait till it pops up again.

Dead for now. As far as I have heard:

There was an unexpected RAID failure during a planned server migration. No ETA yet for when everything will be working again.

Though, I believe it to be very soon, until they fix their issues OPKG will be unavailable.

Sebkinne

Thanks Sebkinne, good to know.

Is there another way for me to install tools on the pineapple? I know that their page for the source for everything is still up:

http://mirror2.openwrt.org/sources/

So I wasn't sure if I could compile them then transfer them onto the pineapple and install from something like a USB drive.

But after this, I'll be downloading everything from the repo and hosting it myself on a mirror.

Speaking of which though, are there any other repositories for the pineapple? I've heard people mention them but wasn't sure what they were for or if they'd be of use to me.

Mirroring is not a great idea since we work a lot with bleeding edge. So your mirror will be out of date quite fast. But still, if you have the means why not ;)

Instead of grabbing those sources: ftp://bo.mirror.garr.it/pub/1/openwrt/snapshots/trunk/ar71xx/packages/

That will do. Though, I cannot vouch for the repo and accept no responsibility as to the packages hosted there.

Sebkinne

Downloads.openwrt.org is back up. There is no longer a need for a mirror. Be sure to correct your openwrt.config if you have changed it to the mirror.

Server maybe up but as of 2:30 CST

root@Pineapple:~# opkg update

Looking forward to the Hak5 mirror! I'd set one up now, just not sure which folder to get the correct sources from, and compilation methods. Wouldn't be hard to code a script to check daily for updates/additions to downloads.openwrt and download them into the mirror, though.

So, to shed some light on what is going on with openwrt...

"There was a apparently major server RAID breakdown in connection with a planned version update for some services, and that left some of the services unusable for two days. Now most of the servers have been brought back online, but apparently the main web site is still off."

That was a few days ago, the thread I linked below has a little more detail, but the snapshots are still being rebuilt... it looks like the ar7xx build keeps failing re-build for some reason; per the buildbot link below, the next attempt at rebuild will be complete in 2 hours, but nodes are already reporting failure, so it isnt likely that this will self-resolve today.

I will post more or any links if I ever find any.

You posted the wrong build server.

AR71XX is the one we need.

Two builds are pending right now, they won't get updated for the next 24h.

We will have the repo up asap - we just need to finish building the 2400+ packages.

Best Regards,

Sebkinne

Ahh, yes I see the errors now, I have updated the post to reflect the correct build...

I guess I need alcohol to think straight.

Seb, if you need a buildslave, PM me, I have some horsepower that could be utilized for something like this...
