Dazzle
Hey Everyone, I've just received my USB>UART (finally) So I started following Mr Protocol's tutorial right away. After getting the default login details, which should be admin/admin according to the terminal, but it's actually root and some number ass pw. I logged in and started to type the commands to flash the router, unfortunately I get error mesages saying setenv and saveenv can't be found. My router is currently running the default ALFA firmware. Thanks in advance for any help!
Mr-Protocol
If you are doing a clean flash you do not need a login. You make your choice when it first boots up to boot option 3. There should be no asking for credentials. Later on after the factory flash you will need to passwd and then SCP over upgrade.bin
inTheDMZ
When you say terminal do you mean in the putty serial connection? sounds like you have either: 1) logged in via telnet and are trying to issue the commands 2) logged in via SSH and are trying to issue the commands 3) haven't choosen a option from the u-boot options and have let it continue to boot to the alfa firmware as mr protocol has suggested
Dazzle
For some reason it was booting into the wrong option I guess, but since your video said not to choice an option I did that and it went to the ALFA login. I managed to get it to work though, thanks a lot anyway! Don't actually know why I thought I had to let it boot without choosing any option Thanks, sorry for this unnecessary topic ;) Dazzle Edited June 22, 2012 by Dazzle
Mr-Protocol
Start of clean flash you pick option 3. You only don't pick an option after you have flashed the factory files from cloud.wifipineapple.com Since it is over serial you do not need login credentials. But you are root and will need to passwd to change the root password to SCP.
Dazzle
Yeah I know already, I just didn't choose the option and got into a login page for ALFA, which I was accessing trough Serial though. But after I chose option 3 everything went fine B)
Mr-Protocol
I honestly have no clue what ALFA login page you are speaking of. Never seen one.
Dazzle
Well it isn't really a page, you just get a login prompt in the terminal, Its the same one you get when telnetting to the device, and in the terminal it says adminu:admin adminp:password. While actually the username is root and the password is 80546334 I got to that login prompt by using UART > USB but it's the same as telnet. Don't know what ALFA is thinking with their firmware, it's a buggy firmware and there's no documentation or updates for it. Sorry for the confusion ;)
Mr-Protocol
Huh, weird. Never seen it before.
Sebkinne
I have. It is Alfa's custom firmware. Only way out of it as it is not OpenWRT is to re flash over serial. Best, Sebkinne
