Chalito Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 Sup guys, I have a Dell Inspiron E1405 and i'm currently running Ubuntu on it. The deal is that when I first got the laptop Ubuntu didn't see the built in wireless card so with the help of ndsiwrapper i was able to get it working, problem is that now Ubuntu put out a kernel update and it broke my wireless again. I havn't tried to use Ndsiwrapper again but i wanted to see if you guys had any good ideas. Let me know, i'm searched all the Ubuntu forums and what i find is that alot of people are saying that the wireless is working right out of the gate, which is not the case, i'm sure of it. But if you guys know any thing good or have a similar problem pls post, the help is appreciated. I belive the dell inspiron is running and Intel Pro wireless card. The model is 3945 i belive. Quote
Jester Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 whats the output lspci that will make sure it is an Intel Pro Wireless cause that is what is in my Inspirion and it works Awesome straight out the gate. I am runnign Xubuntu but there should be no difference there. Quote
Chalito Posted September 25, 2006 Author Posted September 25, 2006 well, i usually just use the command line to connect to any networks around but when i go to the gui network manager it doesn't even show that i have a wifi card. How does ur OS handle ur card? did you have to do any special configurations to it? Quote
VaKo Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 Think Dells either come with a broadcom or intel wifi cards. If you've had to use ndiswrapper before i'm guessing you've got a broadcom which isn't supported by *nix yet. So for your problem i'd rerun ndiswrapper, and if it fails see if theres anything in the updates about ndiswrapper being broken. Or, there's this upstart OS called winwoes or somthing, not much going for it but it has great wireless support ;-) Quote
Chalito Posted September 25, 2006 Author Posted September 25, 2006 yea, it seems like i'm going to have to go ahead and run wrapper again. It's just such a pain cause i can't use a PCIMCIA card either cause Dell decided that this model was going to have a PCIMCIA EXPRESS slot instead of the normal one. I wanna send the laptop back but i have already kinda moded it. lol. But thank for your help Vako. If anyone eles out there has any tips, pls, help is welcome. Quote
