Signal Booster With Mark Iv

Recommended Posts

Can I have some opinions on whether this would work with with the Mark IV?

http://www.amazon.com/Amped-Wireless-1000mW-Booster-SB1000/dp/B004MDQQ04/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1332469116&sr=8-8

They aren't cheap but if it but it it even doubled the area the signal coverage it might be worth it. I am also wondering if it would work with a directional antenna?

Anybody have a history with one of these or maybe another brand of booster?

Thanks

Recreational wifi (or any RF) transmitting at higher than 1watt (1000mw) is illegal in the US. Don't forget that INCLUDES antenna db as well :)

Using iw you should be able to adjust the tx-power of the WiFi Pineapple. I believe the default is 20 or 23. The values are set in /etc/config/wireless and you can manually adjust them with iw and iwconfig -- though I should point out that if you're not experienced with this sort of stuff I'd refrain from tinkering until some sort of solid guide is posted.

You may have to set your region to BO first (Assuming you live in Bolivia *This isn't legal otherwise*)

Here's some additional reading on the matter

Next time I'm working on the pineapple I'll see what I can come up with. Cheers!

  • 3 weeks later...

If i do

iwlist txpower

i get

wlan0 unknown transmit-power information.

          Current Tx-Power=18 dBm (63 mW)

mon.wlan0 unknown transmit-power information.

          Current Tx-Power=18 dBm (63 mW)

Anybody was able to change them? Tried with modifying the /etc/config/wireless adding

txpower 20

or a iwconfig txpower on the fly but didn't succed..
