diggler Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 I am going nuts! I've spent 4hrs googling and still can't make it work :( I'm simply trying to remote desktop from a macbookpro with chicken vnc to, backtrack5 r1 running vnc4server. I get the well documented grey screen of death and no matter what I try it doesn't work. Can someone please share a tutorial on how to do this (with any remote desktop type software). Thank you in advance (you're saving what little hair I have left GAH!) Quote
digininja Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 I've just installed vnc4server, ran it up, set a password then connected to it from Chicken and it worked fine. It takes me into what appears to be an fvwm desktop but I connect and get a graphical interface. I've done nothing special with the install. Running an up-to-date BT5 in VirtualBox with guest additions installed. Can't offer any solutions but can tell you that it does work. Quote

digininja Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 I'm running KDE, maybe that makes a difference as your error is with Gnome This might be worth a read: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1480094 Quote
digininja Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 can you pls post your original "/.vnc/xstartup" file? "error opening security policy file /etc/X11/xserver/SecurityPolicy" <-- did you have to chmod any file after install? That machine is shut down on as on the way to bed, will try to remember tomorrow. Quote
