rlocone Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 Hello All, OnStar is doing some tracking of your vehicle. Even if you don't have a plan you can call them to opt out. I just got off the phone and they claim that the data connection is deactivated. Is there a way to check that it's off and see what it's transmitting if it's still on? Talked to the guys at the dealership and told me that the only thing they could do is remove the module. The dealership claims that they weren't aware of the new privacy statement release and information gathering. Quote
eovnu87435ds Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 I don't know about being able to without some sort of wireless sniffer, but the onstar box itself is pretty big. In my grandfather's 2006 Envoy it is about the size of a lunch box and is underneath the rear pasenger seat. It has a motorola sticker on it. You can be sure there is no tracking being done if you just unplug that box Quote
Mr-Protocol Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 For me, I really don't care if it's on or off. I mean it's not like some bored IT guy is going to watch your driving habbits. There are how many cars with that crap pre-installed, I'm sure the database is overwhelming. Quote
