jonjonr6
Editdns was acquired by Dyn. Dyn wants money to migrate accounts to their system. I don't want Dyndns because it costs if you have your own domain name. Does anyone have suggestions for good free dynamic dns registration? It would be nice if I could use the built in dns registration features of pfSense. thanks
digip
Domain names generally only cost $10/year these days, but usually when bundled with hosting. Without, they run on average $20/year without hosting. I've never used a free domain registrar before, but you can just google for them to see what else is available (good luck, I don't see any promising finds) - http://www.google.com/search?num=50&hl=en&newwindow=1&safe=off&biw=1436&bih=744&q=%22free+domain+registration%22+without+hosting&aq=f&aqi=g1&aql=&oq= Not sure how that plays into a dynamically changing address though, since your IP may change often, you will still need some sort of service to update the DNS records in real time each time the IP changes. DynDNS offers free Dynamic DNS services as well ( http://www.dyndns.com/services/dns/dyndns/ ), but you have to use the naming convention offered by their services to name the site. If you want a full on domain name of your own choosing with them, thats probably why they are charging, since they would have to register the domain name to you. You can also try No-ip - http://www.no-ip.com/services/managed_dns/free_dynamic_dns.html But again, have to use their naming convention, which appends their domain name to your sub-domain name.
