justapeon Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Someone's thought's that might be considered. This may sound inane, but I wonder if it might be worth it to borrow a Geiger counter when going to an electronics store. Lots of electronics are made in Japan and the surrounding area. What good is a bluray drive if you get cancer from radiation? Most retail mgmt, could care less about that stuff and your health, They just want sales. Caveat emptor. Quote
cgront Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Someone's thought's that might be considered. I don't think that is needed. I think as long as your conscious about where you buy from. Also I don't Japan is exporting that much right now. I think That the stock in the stores at the moment is also what was there before everything went to crap over in Japan. Quote
m1k Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Almost 95 per cent of our electronic stuff is made in china... If you go in your cellar with a Geiger....I'am quite sure that is much more radioactive of all your electronics made in Japan that's because of the Radon gas... An old Italian scientist ,Bendandi, made a forecast of a big .......(dont' want even mention) in Rome the 11th of May... so close...we will see........... Quote
buffy Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 I have to say I like your thinking on that one. However the amount of Radiation that you could get from a product from Japan is going to be very little unless its been in the power plant. At lower levels injestion can be fatal but I haven't eaten a stick of RAM for some time now :) From what I recall from physics this is right: http://web.mit.edu/newsoffice/1994/safe-0105.html Quote
BattZ Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 (edited) For those curious, XKCD did a little thing about radiation. http://xkcd.com/radiation/ EDIT:: beware of bananaphones Edited March 24, 2011 by BattZ Quote
Infiltrator Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 That is a very good observation and does deserve some credit. In reality any kind of electronic device, does emit radiation but not enough to cause any serious harm to us. However limiting the contact with electronic devices can help. http://healthmad.com/health/nine-effective-tips-to-prevent-computer-radiation/ Quote
m1k Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 (edited) Also a digital watch has it's radiation.... but we living on the fingerprint of many communications satellites, many telephone trasmitters....analog and digital terrestrial broadcastings... last but not least...our smartphone on the pocket.... Can we say we do not have any cancer risk? I am afraid not............. Edited March 25, 2011 by m1k Quote
Infiltrator Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 How To Geek wrote an article on Radiation Exposure, quite interesting read. http://www.howtogeek.com/news/understand-radiation-exposure-infographic/4016/ Quote
