abferm Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Hey, anyone have any suggestions for a decent motherboard that wont put me over my budget. I plan to run Windows 7 64-bit on it. The machine will be doing a little bit of everything. Requirements: support 16 GB RAM support AM2+ processor multiple pci slots ATX form factor < $90 including shipping if it can be helped. Input would be greatly appreciated. Quote
digip Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 This is the board I have: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128394&cm_re=GA-MA785GM-US2H-_-13-128-394-_-Product I currently have 16GB of ram in it, with an AMD Phenom II X6 3.2GHZ processor. Has only one PCI-e slot, but my graphics card is beefy enough I don't need multiple GPU's (ATI HD5770). Pleanty of SATA connections available as well as e-sata on the rear of the board. You could easily do a software raid with no issue. If you wanted to use the PCI-e slot for something like a high bandwidth raid or USB 3.0 cards, you're still ok, because it has a really good ATI Radeon HD 4200 GPU onboard that served me well over a year until I upgraded the PSU, CPU and GPU. The only thing I had to do was update the bios to support the 6-core CPU, and that only took like a minute running their utility from within windows itself. A nice feature since I don't have a floppy drive. It also has a dual bios as well as the capability to cache to disk, so if something goes foobar on one bios for any reason, you have a backup. Quote
