ParMan
i have seen this on other forums but you cant post a topic or reply if this the same as your last post/reply. also i think you have to wait 1-5 minutes between post.

Forcing time-spans between posts doesn't do anything except aggravate legitimate end users.
Sparda
Hello ForcedLogic, I hope you had fun going through the post approval system :P Still getting spammed a fair bit. Want to see what happens over the period of a night (UK time). Annoyingly, most of the spam accounts are registering (and validating) with gmail accounts. wtf Google, get your act together lol. Then yahoo is used quite a bit, then mail.ru.
Sparda
For those interested: The amount of spam still out numbers new user posts (posts by new users) by about ten to one (or worse).
digip
I wonder if there is something like http://www.fassim.com/plug-ins/ for IPB. The ability to block countries would be cool, so no one from russia and china can spam us. I know that might be a an issue for some legit people in those regions, but I am sure they could find a way in if they wanted to and in the process it would help reduce probably 90% of the spam. I still think a captcha on posts is a good idea, even if there is one on the registration process, whatever we can do to slow them down the better. edit: Just saw http://community.invisionpower.com/files/file/3916-forum-spammer-ip-email-check/ for IPB. Maybe we can give it a try. http://community.invisionpower.com/index.php?app=downloads&module=display§ion=screenshot&full=1&id=3916&record=25393 Edited January 24, 2011 by digip
Sparda
I don't know the specifics of the configuration of this IPBoard install, but the people who make IPBoard offer a spam prevention service. That is to say, they have a central database of know IP and email address and usernames, if an account matches some variation of them, it gets auto banned. No idea if it's turned on for this install though. It's either not setup or it's stopped working.

I imagine we would need someone to test it out and make sure its secure as well. Thats the only problem with 3rd party plugins, you never know if there is flaw that could lead to a compromise, but then again, there could be a 0-day for IPB we haven't seen yet as well.
