Flex Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 Hello, I tried to install backtrack on my USB stick. I used "unetbootin" for doing this. I downloaded the Backtrack-Final ISO, not the VMWare one and installed it on the USB (16GB). I booted the USB and selected "Start backtrack in Text Mode", and typed in "startx". Startx should startup an Graphical Interface but in my case it didn't. I said: "startx: Command not found". Did I do anything wrong? Please tell me Thanks :) Quote

jobdone Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 might be stating the obvious but it should be 'startx' and not 'STARTX' ... Quote
digip Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 (edited) I remember something of an issue with unetbootin on the newer backtrack's where its trying to point to incorrect files. Might be the problem. Depends on version of untebootin too. Did you follow: http://www.backtrack-linux.org/tutorials/usb-live-install/ Edited November 27, 2010 by digip Quote
Mr-Protocol Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 (edited) http://www.backtrack-linux.org/tutorials/ http://www.infosecramblings.com/backtrack/...-changesnessus/ That is the How-To from Backtrack-Linux.org If you have problems making a forum post or joining their IRC would be the best bet. jobdone Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 (edited) I have BT4 on an SD-Card whacked in my EEE - it is bt4-final.iso. I too used unetbootin however I did update bt4 and add a couple of scripts with the bt4 customise sript. I just booted it using the text mode and being the live version it automatically logs in then ran startx and KDE fired up. You don't state whether it's the Backtrack 4 final iso your trying? NoCode Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 Having the same issue. I used unetbootin (ver 549) and BT4 R2 ISO on a FAT32 formatted 16GB usb. Does not matter which mode I start in, startx command is not found. Quote
