Zalzer Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 Does anybody know if there's a way to edit the Windows Registry without booting up Windows maybe editing it from Linux instead or from a boot CD or another boot disk Quote
dirty D Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 you could do it from a windows live cd like the ultimate boot cd or bart pe or you could try running regedit.exe in wine on linux, i cant remember if regedit allows you to choose the .reg file to open though. Quote
Zalzer Posted August 3, 2006 Author Posted August 3, 2006 Well both Regedit in WINE and The Ultimate Boot CD should work but both would require NTFS write capability and The Ultimate Boot CD doesn't have that and I think that the NTFS write capabilities in the Linux Kernel still are experimental Quote
dirty D Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 the ultimate boot cd does have full ntfs capabilities. this one http://www.ubcd4win.com/ Quote
sentinel Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 There are programs such as this http://www.mitec.cz/rfv.htm which can be used to view and edit the files that the registry is stored in. If there isn't a linux equivalent, although i suspect there is, then this could be run in WINE or off of a BART disc. Quote
Zalzer Posted August 4, 2006 Author Posted August 4, 2006 Thx dirty D didn't know about http://www.ubcd4win.com/ thought your were talking about http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ I will give it a try later Quote
