New Site Deviceknit Looking For Beta Testers

Hey I just wanted to let people know about a web app I've been working on with my friend. We've been huge fans of Hak5 for a long time, and wanted to make it easier for people to share and discover awesome hacks for everyday devices, like finding cool things people are doing with the ZipIt, for example.

It's called DeviceKnit and we just launched a very early version to the public, so we're looking for some people who want to try it out and give feedback for where you think it should go or what we have so far. You can check it out at http://deviceknit.com It's a really early version, but we have a lot of plans for iterating on it over coming months

Please let me us know what you think!

Thanks,

John

I liked your idea very much. As a suggestion, you guys could also put up a product review page, where other users could write up their own experience, likes or dislikes about a particular product.

Apart from that, I give you guys credit. Great work keep it up.

Thanks for the bug report, Psychosis!

There's the ability to comment on devices, do you think that is close enough? We were thinking of giving people the option to upvote comments, too, which might help push good reviews to the top. What do you think?

Thanks for checking out the site!

I guess if a user can provide a comment on a particular device, than it could be considered close to a review. Technically because the user has experimented with it and knows what the goods and bads are.

Yeah dude that sounds good to me.

Edit: Added an image. You might want to resize uploaded images, and the transparency in the thumbnail is screwed.

Yeah haha this is pretty bad right now. We're already aware and will hopefully be able to get to this bug soon.

Thanks everyone for checking it out and giving your feedback! It really means a lot to us. Now that we've got this out it seems like we need to rethink how we are doing implementations and goals. We might just get rid of goals and let people define 'implementations' as any cool setup or combination of hardware, software, and web services, and then instead of goals let them add lots of tags to an implementation. Also, we'd make it possible for someone to 'request an implementation' for cases where someone would want to create a goal that others could answer. Hopefully we can do some kind of stack overflow bounty thing with our point system around this in the not-too-distant future, too!

Thanks again for the feedback guys!!!

John
