deleted
Very Cool. One thing you could consider is writing a guide on how to set up a shell service (how you did it, what you learned, tips/tricks/caveats etc), having been looking around I could not find any. The reason I say this is that I have been looking for this such information of how to do it properly because I have a UltraSPARC Sun Workstation I would like to do a similar thing with. DarkBlueBox, I may be writing a guide based off of what I did to build this. That was one of the original ideas behind the project. :)

cooper
Three questions. What do you expect people to do with this service? How much local diskspace does a user get? Is a user allowed to provide (compile locally) his own programs?
fsck
Three questions. What do you expect people to do with this service? How much local diskspace does a user get? Is a user allowed to provide (compile locally) his own programs? 1) Its a remote shell, I expect a wide variety of uses. Learning, scripting/programming, IRC, remote storage (light), tunneling, etc. 2) Roughly 100MB per user. This is a loose restriction and we will allow more space be used as long as its not abused. 3) Yes, we provide several compilers as well as some script interpreters. Netshroud
Do you offer any HTTP hosting? (I couldn't see any HTTP daemons running)
fsck
Do you offer any HTTP hosting? (I couldn't see any HTTP daemons running) Right now we do not. We also do not offer free mail access. These services will most likely be added in the future, but we do not want to offer more services than we can reliably manage.
Xqtftqx
What would be really cool is if you set it up for compiling for different platforms, such as: PSP, NDS, iPhone, etc
HacDan
All just from someone offering a free shell account? I'd say that's a bit much to maintain, but, I am not the one hosting the shell accounts, so... =/ Thank-you again for hosting this, btw, fsck =)

H@L0_F00
You should require the user to enter their email address twice in order to avoid spelling mistakes. And yes, nice work. Edited June 16, 2010 by H@L0_F00
fsck
Do you offer any HTTP hosting? (I couldn't see any HTTP daemons running) We have just enabled HTTP hosting. D1g1ta1
We have just enabled HTTP hosting. More information can be found on the site: http://theowned.net/?q=node/10 You may want to look at this as well: http://serverkit.org/modules/httpx/ if you plan on providing users with http access.. On of the main reasons why I use it..: By using these features httpx introduces minimal overhead, and allows us to continue using all the popular web server software - even more freely than before, since you don't need to be concerned about things like mod_perl or mod_php security issues or instabilities effecting the shared process space of your entire vhosts pool. Every domain can have it's own minimal specific and simply configured instance of Apache, while sharing a single IP:port. Every domain can even run a completely different web server software if desired.
