Building a really good server especially for games can be quite costly. But I will try to provide you with some parts. I need to do some research first of all. Will get back to u on this one.

I've sorta figured out some components. I'm not sure but should I buy a motherboard with 1 socket for 2.66GHZ Xeon Quad? Or buy 2 sockets so i can purchase 2 2.13 GHZ Quadies?

That's what I was going to suggest, buy a motherboard that has support for two CPUs. But that would probably cost a little bit more.

Will this board fit in a axt designed server rack?

Even though your motherboard has a SSI CEB form factor, it will still fit in an ATX form factor case.

This wiki should clear things a bit for you, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_form_factor

Are you able to provide a link to your server rack case?

Also, Im thinking of opening a GSP business. I have experience with hosting etc, only issue I actually face is the hardware. Will 2 single Quad Core machines run better than a machine with Dual Quad core? Im thinking of purchasing a single quad, and when I need more space just buy another single quad. Or should I invest in a dual quad core? Thanks.

P.S They will be Xeon.

imho, the single quad core would be faster than 2 dual core chips because all the dies are on the same CPU.

need anymore help with settings up your comapny? I have ran a few before. Actually thinking about setting up another one since i work for a data center :-D

if you need a location to host a server, let me know

I'm assuming you're trying to setup a dedicated server for multiple game servers? If so, how many users per server? The one thing I've noticed is that everyone gets caught up in this CPU frenzy while putting together dedicated game server boxes when in actuality the RAM is the single most important part of the box for game servers...usually.

Currently im hosting in Kansas. Im thinking of a Dual Quad Core 2.5 and 8 GB ram, or 2 2.8 Quad Core servers with 4 gb each. Where is the DC located? And how much does it cost? Also im considering around 8 game servers in one machine.

Where are you located at? The company i work for is in Wichita,KS.

We usually charge $50/u (im not sure if that includes bandwidth). We have DS3 40mb up/down so the connection is pretty good. Should be upgrading to GigE here in the next month or two.

The first CPU is a 775 (first gen quad) which takes DDR2. The second one is 1156 which takes DDR3. so you'll have to double check the socket and the ram of both the motherboards.

I wish I could get those speeds (40mb up/down). Who is your ISP.

You can for $50 bucks/U :-D

Verizon

$50 bucks that's cheap but the only issue is that I don't live in USA. And where I live the ISP does not offer this kind of service.

From my experience, a server CPU is generally not faster than a consumer level CPU, you can generally get more performance for your money by going with a consumer CPU, as you will be able to get a much faster CPU for about the same price, unless you want to do more than 1 CPU then a server setup will be good (just keep in mind that many game server apps will not make use of setups like this so you will need to host more than 1 game at the same time to benefit from the extra cores. but even then there is a risk with a shared server.

A common trick that i noticed on both battlefield 2 and starwars jedi academy is if a game is hosted on a shared server and one of the virtual servers gets hit with a DOS attack then generally all of the other servers being hosted will lag.

Eg with jedi academy, the company stopped updating it, leaving one major vector for DOS

Other groups stepped in and created a mod which patched the DOS problem but not all of the servers had this patch, and since many servers were shared, a angry gamer could just do a port scan and find the other servers hosted, then a using the server browser in game, look up the info on the games, then after that, they can find a unpatched server

then using a query with a parameter of excessive length. it would cause the server to go crazy and everyone it will get disconnected, then server will then sit there, eating up a lot of memory and CPU cycles, then every other server hosted on the same machine would lag to a point where the games were unplayable.

The same tricks were done with battlefield 2

So all in all, getting a fast machine to host many servers can be good just keep in mind that the server will be less reliable because of it.

Well I was thinking of getting a tower machines. With a desktop mobo/CPU etc but what people have told me is server equipment last longer. Can survive the heat and being turned on 24/7. Also Another reason im getting dual quad core is so I can host more reasonable amount servers in one machine so I don't have to pay money on more TCadmin licenses if I have 2 machines. Aswell as the co-location etc. And Most games I'm going to host mainly HL2 Games. E.G CS:S Gmod TF2 KF Etc.
