inquisitive
hi guys, i am at uni doing my degree in networking. the time has come to do my final year project, my main area of interest is network security so i want to do some amazing project on hacking and security. but its pretty hard to think of something that hasn't already been done! so i was wondering if you guys had any cool ideas on what would make a good hacking project thanks
Sparda
Unfortunately final year projects do not have to be (apparently) unique (if this were the case there might be more innovation from universities). You could make a primitive IPS/IDS. It could have various different operation modes such as 'firewall only', 'paranoid' and 'extremely paranoid'. 'firewall only' mode just prevents unwanted external access. 'paranoid' mode does things like attempts to prevent ARP poisoning attacks form the internal network. 'extremely paranoid' mode prevents passwords been sent over the internet in plaintext and other things.

Sparda
You'll probably want to take Linux, then apply various IP tables rules based on the modes. Then, as things happen, change the rules and such.
inquisitive
ah ok i see, so i could create ip rules to prevent ICMP redirects and etc do you think it is possible to create these rules and then some how place them onto an open wrt router? or am i getting ahead of myself thanks
