I am starting my own multipass on an 8 GB Sandisk Cruzer and need some help entering the menu.lst the iso's I want to use are as follows:

1.OPHCrack

2.Katana 1.5

3.Hiren's Boot CD 10.4

4.Backtrack 4 Final

5.Ubuntu 9.10 Live

6.Knoppix 6.2.1

7.Clonezilla 1.2.4

8.Gparted 0.5.2-1

9.DBAN 2.0

10.Avira Rescue CD

11.Kaspersky Rescue Disc

12.Trinity Rescue Kit 3.3

13. Windows 7 Ultimate Installer

14. Windows XP Pro Installer

I understand that some of these may have been posted in other threads, just I still need help understanding the format and how to set the drive up. I have formatted with PE2USB and installed GRUB4DOS the only issue I'm having is with the menu.lst if anyone can shed some light and walk me through this. Thanks in advance.

For BT4 this is mine:

title -=- BackTrack 4: Penetration testing toolkit -=-
configfile /boot/bootBT4/grub/BT4menu.lst
savedefault

and then:

 # By default, boot the first entry.
default 0

# Boot automatically after 30 secs.
timeout 30

splashimage=/boot/grub/bt4.xpm.gz
foreground e3e3e3
background 303030

title                Start BackTrack FrameBuffer (1024x768)
kernel                /boot/vmlinuz BOOT=casper boot=casper nopersistent rw quiet vga=0x317
initrd                /boot/initrd.gz

title                Start BackTrack FrameBuffer (800x600)
kernel                /boot/vmlinuz BOOT=casper boot=casper nopersistent rw quiet vga=0x314
initrd                /boot/initrd800.gz

title                Start BackTrack Forensics (no swap)
kernel                /boot/vmlinuz BOOT=casper boot=casper nopersistent rw vga=0x317
initrd                /boot/initrdfr.gz

title                Start BackTrack in Safe Graphical Mode
kernel                /boot/vmlinuz BOOT=casper boot=casper xforcevesa rw quiet
initrd                /boot/initrd.gz

title                Start Persistent Live CD
kernel                /boot/vmlinuz BOOT=casper boot=casper persistent rw quiet
initrd                /boot/initrd.gz

title                Start BackTrack in Text Mode
kernel                /boot/vmlinuz BOOT=casper boot=casper nopersistent textonly rw quiet
initrd                /boot/initrd.gz

title                Start BackTrack Graphical Mode from RAM
kernel                /boot/vmlinuz BOOT=casper boot=casper toram nopersistent rw quiet
initrd                /boot/initrd.gz

title                Memory Test
kernel                /boot/memtest86+.bin

title                Boot the First Hard Disk
root                (hd0)
chainloader +1

However i cannot get it too work for some reason it hangs at the terminal as it is going through the verbose boot and then presents me with a normal Shell and i cannot boot. Maybe you will have more luck with it

  • 3 months later...

I need help with katana much like the op. I've tried a few things but short of reading the entire grub manual I need assistance. In my attempts to find the proper setup I booted clonezilla so clearly I got something wrong but was close.

Does anyone out there have a working grub4dos config for Katana, maybe switching to grub2 will help?

Any feedback welcomed.
