Sid2.0 Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 I want to get a USB External DVD-ROM but thought I would check if there were any features that are a must have or is it you get what you pay for. Thanks Sid~ Quote
Charles Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 I just picked one up from Fry's Electronics the other day. It was on sale for 39.99, an 8X Gear Head slim external dvd burner. So far it works very well for what I need. It does say it "needs" 2 USB ports, but I've gotten away with using only one (powered via USB). Newegg has it as well. Quote
Inked Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 my personal choice is this... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16827135204 yes it is an internal, however you can just hook it up via SATA>USB. You get GREAT specs for $24. Quote

Sparda Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 The two ports power issue is because the USB2 specification says that ports should supply a minimum of 500mW of power which is not enough for drives. Most motherboards will supply more than this on a single port, but occasionally you will find devices where this is a problem. Quote
