US Healthcare... Like it or Hate it

The messiah has promised to fix this problem too...all should be well. Perhaps another bailout? In all seriousness though, if Obama really does manage to clean up the VA, I'll be the first to congratulate him for a job well done. But the last three Presidents have all made this a priority and nothing has changed.

On a side note, I've also read that California is still drowning in red ink, and I can't tell you how happy I am to hear that.

Lol, if Cali rattled off the coast and sunk (like it's supposed to) then I would do the happy dance.. I would be sad for the folks that died, but greatful of the lessening of self imposed fat headed biggots that try to run the United States from their desks.

The biggest issue here is that Americans are not working together on this, it took maybe 30seconds for a debate on better healthcare to turn into an almighty war about America becoming a facist/socialist/islamic nation with enforced euthanasia. No one can do or say anything without a million attack ads being cranked out. You need to start looking past your differences and find common ground, rather than instantly splitting off into different sides and fighting over the most trivial of things. You are all on the same team at the end of the day.

This will be your downfall America.

I have to laugh at someone from the UK telling others what will be the downfall of their country. I have a positive view of the UK, but its hardly a standard for efficient govt. and social harmony.

Trivial things? A multi-billion dollar govt. takeover of a massive industry is trivial? What fantasy world do you live in?

This is about a massive govt. trying to take over and socialize a massive industry when they've proven they can't run anything this big.

This is about upstanding citizens having to shell out more of their money to prop up the lazy. One look at Crapifornia shows that a welfare state does not work here. People live on the welfare system. Welfare regulations are not enforced, regardless of how much the taxpayers protest it. And because the losers on the welfare train can't pay taxes, regular citizens are refused their tax refunds because California has no more money. Meanwhile the welfare system stays intact because why work when the govt. will just pay for everything, and its too controversial for politicians to try and cut back on welfare.

Entire cities refuse to enforce immigration law, even when it comes to illegals with felony convictions because deporting people isn't "nice and neighborly."

America's downfall is the fact that we are too afraid to hurt anyone's feelings regardless of being in the right. Fringe special interest groups have more of a say than the citizen majority. America is ran by a bunch of pussies. People see this move on healthcare as one step too far at this point in time and have decided to make their stand. And I, for one am having a great time listening to people whine and attempt to demonize the protesters in the same way Iraq war protesters were demonized. THe irony and hypocrisy is swirling over here, and its great to watch.

btw, since when did vigorous debate become bad for a country?

When the people arguing are ignoring facts and making up figures. Ive seen the adverts slamming the UK NHS, the French system, the Canadian system and all the other socialised schemes and I just have to laugh. Also all the people who quote the adverts like they were fact. A simple google would pretty much silence the adverts, but people just take it at face value.

slander and lies are found in every debate in history. You're acting as if its something new. Heck, you're from the UK, you should be used to that kind of debate.

Seems to me that you're taking everything at face value and buying the Democratic party line 100% by believing that everyone opposing the new plan is uneducated and taking adverts at face value. There is sensible arguments on both side. Americans are supposed to be skeptical of government. We often are and at the same time, we often buy things at face value. We aren't perfect, but I for one am happy that people are at least voicing their beliefs.

I'll admit it, the UK is slowly collapsing because the Labour goverment created *far* too many public sector jobs (and thus voters who would support them because everyone else would cut those jobs) and was relying on the financial sector to support the entire economy. We have huge social problems because we've failed to invest in the poorest members of society and have a huge amount of people on welfare with no real hope of work. This has created tons of lazy people who honestly say things like "i can't pay my £5 a week subsidized rent because I went on holiday", and we don't have the balls to let them starve.

And I'll also play devils advocate and say that the US cannot afford health care reform currently because your pissing your money away on a stupidly oversized military and engaging in pointless wars. Why do you *need* to spend $500 billion a year on killing people? And if you need it to stay safe, then your obviously doing something wrong. This is similar to British military spending around the beginning of the 20th century, and it broke our back, it will break your backs also. Just like it broke the Romans, and pretty much every empire before and since.

However, rational debate doesn't mean calling people facist or nazis, this is beyond childish. Waving around pictures of Obama with a Hitler 'tash, what are you actually trying to say other than "I have no fucking clue what I am on about". All the lies and hysteria coming from the right over this drowns out any sensible debate that could be had over the subject, and thus we mere foreigners are left to go "what the fuck?...".

End of story, you do need to sort out your healthcare system, some form of basic care beyond emergency room visits needs to be provided for and that still leaves plenty of room for the private companys to do there stuff. All you need to do is have a bare minimum provided as part of being a citizen, and if you want it better, faster, more of it and so forth, you can do it privately. Which is pretty much what the rest of the developed world has in place already, aside from you.

We're your friends over here, but it pains us to watch yourselves tear each other apart over something that should actually be quite simple.
