Etherbunny Inc
So I've played with the major VMMs and I've got ESXi running. What I can't find is a type-1 hypervisor for desktop OSs, to run on a laptop or desktop. VMware Workstation is kind of what I want, but it's a type-2. Any help would be great. Netshroud
I thought a Type-1 hypervisor was its own OS?
Sparda
Type 1 hypervisor is where the hypervisor is the operating system. Type 2 is where the hypervisor is running on top of another operating system. I would say a type 1 hypervisor is not possible on the desktop, becasue you need additional layers of hardware abstraction in order to achieve the desktop bit whcih requires a full OS. Also, this type of VM on the desktop would be pretty useless as the VM would not be able to make full use of the hardware available (graphics cards and the like).
