new esxi install for customer

So i wiped a customers server and put ESXi 4 on it. It's a dell poweredge 1950. It has dual Quad-core CPUs 1.66 i believe with 8GB of ram. He is wanting to know how many machines he can put on it total. I looked on VMware's website but couldn't find anything as far a table or chart or anything.

A general rule of thumb is 3-4 VMs per CPU core.

As usual this depends on the load of the VMs.

Memory is the limiting factor here, so I would say 8 2008 installs at most, but you can get away with more if your doing less.
