Wireshark's powerful features make it the tool of choice for network troubleshooting, protocol development, and education worldwide. Wireshark was written by networking experts around the world, and is an example of the power of open source. ben Posted June 25, 2006 Share Posted June 25, 2006 I'm sure the author would have liked to have kept the name Ethereal as well but when the company says they own the name it was probably much easier for him to just start off with a different name rather than start a legal battle.
