Daverto
Hello, I am having problems with my new ESXi Installation, I have recently decided to visualize with the new segment, and find myself having problems. The install went awesomely after modifying ESXi 3.5 to work with IDE drives (not hard), after that it boots fine and I am able to set a root password and am able to set network information so it sets at a static IP. Then I go to firefox on my desktop and open up the webpage, loads fine after the SSL security exception. Then when I try to download the Infrastructure Client installer to use on my computer, the download does not work, it displays a blank page with no download option. After taking apart the ISO a little bit (on mac mounted with disk utility), I find that when finding the file in IENVIRON.TGZ\usr\lib\vmware\hostd\docroot\client, it shows as a alias pointing to /productLocker/client/VMWare-viclient.exe . Then I check for hidden folders at the same level as the alias and the level above it, I did not see one. After searching google, vmware, etc, I have found no luck. So my questions are: 1. (if you decide to take the time), on your iso, does it have the link and/or the productLocker folder? 2. If it does, is it possible mine is a bad download (unlikely because it installed and booted fine)? 3. If you have a copy of the installer, can I use your copy? (I do have a valid key for it (it is free anyways)). Your help is appreciated in advance. Thanks, David
decepticon_eazy_e
Are you talking about ESX3i or ESX 3.5? There is no ESXi 3.5 You should be able to go to https://x.x.x.x/client/VMware-viclient.exe and pull down your own client. (URL is from ESX3.5 server here) 1. Don't know, ours works. 2. Unlikely, the install should fail before a file location failed. 3. They're all the same, so yes you can use somebody else's It's also windows only, so I notice you used a Mac there, there's no Mac version. You could try going in via SSH and seeing if the file is there, you could copy it via SCP. This may be a symptom of a more serious problem, so you may want to dig further or reinstall. Thank you so much. The link was slow but It was worth it. It seems like there are other issues, like you suspected (can't install VMWare Tools onto windows server 2k3), so I suspect that my download went defunct somewhere, I will probably re-download. I do have a successful VM, and this actually helped me solve an issue or two in an enterprise network that had moved halfway to ESX over about 6 months, and now all servers are going ESX within the summer period. So I thank you for your help.
