mosurvey Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Hey guys, I'm getting a block of 5 static IP addresses from Verizon. I was wondering if someone can suggest ways to delegate the IP address besides spending $3000 for a Layer 3 switch. I know that you can use the actiontec router but that only has 4 ports plus I'm not a huge fan of it. I know that there was a recent segment on pfSense. Is something like this able to divide IP addresses? Thanks for any help! Quote
lopez1364 Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 If this is for a T1 line then you are only using one of those IPs to set up the connection and then you set up DHCP to assign IP to the other PCs. Quote
Sparda Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Any router that supports five PVCs should work. The computers won't have there real Internet IP addresses, but port forwarding will fix this. Quote
lnxr0x Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Something like a Cisco 851 router should work, Also you could try setting up a router with DD-WRT. Quote
mosurvey Posted March 16, 2009 Author Posted March 16, 2009 Thanks for your suggestions. I found a HP curve on the cheap and I hope it will fill my needs. If not I'll probably go the with a router and forget about one of the IP addresses. Thanks for your Help! Quote
