Hopefully if that gets fixed for XP then that will fix the Vista problem I have...do you want me to try and get the Vista logs or no need? Any logs would be good. (both PS and Sproxy). Get the one from PS's savedir if you can, as it has non-abbreviated URLs and timestamps which would be useful. If there is no PS log, go into PS settings, advanced tab, and click "start logging". the buggon will say stop logging if it is logging (or has just started logging). Hrm, i thought i set that long enough. That setting is to prevent excessive memory use (size of downloaded data *2). By default, i had it set at 8mb, which was 1mb bigger than any song i have ever downloaded before. The good news is this can be fixed without a new release. First, close sproxy and wait 10 seconds or so while it finishes exiting. Then, you will need to open SProxy.conf, and search for "MaxTamperLength". It should come up to an area that looks like: <item> <key> <string>MaxTamperLength</string> </key> <value> <string>8388608</string> </value> </item> Change the value between the string tags to be bigger. Add a zero, or something. If you are not using SProxy for normal browsing setting it to 80mb will be fine. Note, it is in bytes. Save it, and run sproxy. That will fix it. by the lines in that log, damn, that is long! (13 mins)

brofix
I added the '0' to make it 83mb per your first rec. What is the downside given that I don't reconfig SP every time I use FF? I can handle a burp and a missed tune every now and then if it saves me from developing some other ache. Will you adjust your default or let it stand? But yes, i changed it to 12mb now, and may introduce a way for it to check mime types assuming pandora doesn't call it text/plain or something silly
postaljester
I was wondering if there is a way to avoid the Tuner errors? Every time I get one it crashes my pandora saver and my computer goes a little crazy for a few minutes. That song must've been nearly 30 minutes long (I didn't know Pandora played mixes or stuff that long...) I will change the size length in SProxy.conf (for Vista user). If I'm not mistaken, when I caught SProxy playing the song in normal time, a song before or couple prior had downloaded a 'live' version of something. I'm guessing that these errors are similar. brofix
Something I've noticed about Pandora's playlists while ripping turbo, which I guess could be coincidental: If a quickmix station is played, there are no tunes played which are by the seed bands of the quickmix (themselves). This is in contrast to when single band seeded stations are played, because in that case there may be a few tunes by the band itself. And this is not the case when playing, not ripping. I say coincidental but I have quite a few playlists and I've yet to find an exception. Is this simply illogical, impossible, nonsensical or discernable? Under no circumstance should PS peg the cpu (unless encoding mp3 on a single core, in which is it likely your cpu would max out). I will change the size length in SProxy.conf (for Vista user). brofix
I like to use quickmix when in ripping mode cos it does ALL the stations. Well, yes, exactly, all the stations you have in the mix, from 1 to all. So, I guess there is no easy way to know if a playlist is a result of both single station ripping and/or quickmix ripping, unless one experimented, or as in my case, all of my first lists were quickmix generated...that is how I 'knew.' Hawaii Guy
I will change the size length in SProxy.conf (for Vista user). If I'm not mistaken, when I caught SProxy playing the song in normal time, a song before or couple prior had downloaded a 'live' version of something. I'm guessing that these errors are similar. Will let you know what happens. I changed the value to 9216000 (1024*9000) and it's run longer than anytime before (good). I've watched memory grow from about 118,000k to (now) 348,000k [352,267k in just about a half minute]. Is this expected to happen with IE? Early on, I use FF to check mail when I needed to. I noticed that it was sluggish but kept going, then there's a burst of speed. I looked at IE and Pandora was asking if I am still there (was in mail for about 45 min and I have it set to refresh at 30 min and source does show refresh @ 1800). I closed IE and reopened it (to release mem and start new). I stopped doing anything else except SProxy and it's been running on its own for a good 3 hours with no "are you there" questions. I am in FF now sending this note (and Task Manager shows IE now at 384,776k of memory). With all this intense memory usage going on, should I use the blacklist (which I'm guessing is caching the song information), or should I just have it continue to check in the download folder for the songs? Add on edit - I just caught IE going through a Pandora reset ... memory was just about 480,000k and after the reset it went down to 75,000k so I guess you have to find a happy medium with amount of mem hoarded and minimal Pandora resets. I don't know if you "reset" - will that cause your song list to recycle (meaning the same song will now recycle for replay]? Maybe you could add a 45 minute reset? I never wanted to use the 1 hour because I thought it was too close to Pandora's time out feature. What would happen if someone were using this with a comp that only had 300 meg of RAM (yeah I know, but I'm sure there are some). Would SProxy and browser crash? Lock up? Maybe a 15 minute reset for those with limited RAM until they can afford to buy more because of download $ savings and programmer donations? If IE is leaking memory, it's IE's fault - I've noticed it seems to hemorrhage RAM. Might also be flash. I haven't the faintest what it would be doing to do so. I'd really recommend using firefox due to (far) superior memory management; I posted a portable version of FF earlier in this thread. SProxy should use no more than 50mb at a given time [sProxy.exe], though that will grow and shrink as stuff is downloaded and memory is garbage collected. I've noticed that it can get up to 200 something mb use over time, but it having handled 12k songs, I am not surprised. It seems to be a framework thing. Restart will free the memory. I notice it typically gets swapped out after having been idle for a while as well. Blacklist will use a little more RAM and incur performance penalties on large lists (nothing significant, just a bit more cpu use while checking), but it wouldn't be a noticeable amount of RAM use. The last time i tried to run this on a machine with limited RAM (a virtual one, 256mb) SProxy had trouble with being unable to create a new request handler. I've added code to handle this now, and a max tolerable amount of connections which is stored in the config file. With how much this thrashes the RAM, in addition to base use, i can't recommend the use of this on any machine with less than 512mb of ram. 128mb for the OS (conservative), 80mb for firefox with flash loaded (very conservative) and thrashing leaves only 48mb for the .NET runtime and sproxy. Misc notes: Combining the logs (new version, when eventually released, will use SProxy's log instead of its own). Some compatibility fixes, and new implementations (internally) Still trying to come up with a nice way to handle auto-scrolling of the main window in sproxy. Added bandwidth graph to main window, along with two bar graphs that show the bandwidth use relative to max. Added a stats page to view the content-type bytes distribution. SProxy with Firefox Portable is cool. Sorry for some reason I thought it wouldn't apply to me - as I thought it was a mini-player only. IE is not the only thing with memory leaks! FF started with about 30,000k and growing slowly. I did notice that when it went through a reload, it didn't release memory back so it's still at around 128,000k and climbing. Are all the empty directories necessary with FF-Portable? I did finally get it to be addressed in SProxy. Hope I got it right for that matter. The line in SProxy on 'Command to run on start' looks like file:///C:/Program%20Files/SProxy/Firefox-P/LaunchFirefoxPortable.exe Also when it opens FF, the screen filled with SProxy 1.002b. I found (close to where the toolbar would be) Pandora Radio and the Launch Pandora Mini buttons. I clicked on mini-player and that opened it and got it going. I closed the big browser window after the mini-player was going...right? lol I thought I'd outline the steps just in case I am doing something wrong, and if there is someone who might have been in my boat - not knowing. Please correct me if something's askew.

Though, what are these empty directories you speak of? there should only be one in the zip named "Firefox-P", and then some dirs within it for firefox. altimuh
I must be semi-mostly retarded... I downloaded SPPS1.002b1.008a.zip followed the installation/setup instructions... 2 Problems: 1. when SProxy is running... I can't access my e-mail through hotmail/windows live messenger.... i have to kill PandoraSaver and SProxy, and then go in to IExplorer and uncheck the "use a proxy server" option. then hotmail works... (i'd use another browser to access hotmail, but so far I've never been able to get anything to read my e-mail other then IExplorer.... ) 2. when i'm "sniffing songs" the computer slows down to a crawl - i mean it's making mp3's and all, but it takes forever for me to kill the apps to use the computer. finally results in "Pandora is taking longer then expected to load..." What am I doing wrong?!?!? Thanks!!!!
brofix
altimuh--> reread the thread to find mention of similar probs. Sounds like you are connecting wirelessly? Try low bandwidth mode, if so. I think you do not use a proxy server with IE. Check instructions.

The newMusik playlist is of course ideal for use as a blacklist (and by design, no doubt). As the saved music folder gets huge and must of necessity remain undivided for dupe checks, at some point, at what point, if ever, does it make sense, maybe to bust up the saved music folder and implement a large blacklist to cover that part of the saved music folder which has been thus removed from PS's review? In lieu of a growing blacklist, a pointer to other directories for PS to check for dupes would be very sweet, if tenable. We look forward to the combined logs, maybe also to a auto-chop or max file size setting there. More lazy, thank you.

What am I doing wrong?!?!? Thanks!!!! Odd. Hotmail is one of the specific tests i ran for compatibility, and it runs fine (still does). If you exit SProxy gracefully(hit X) it will uncheck the proxy server setting when done, if that is how it was set beforehand. What happens when you try to access it? MP3 encoding is naturally stressful. It can't really be helped. As brofix said, you might try low bandwidth mode in SProxy settings. The newMusik playlist is of course ideal for use as a blacklist (and by design, no doubt). Check blacklist.txt file contained in the zip folder - and put it in your save folder if you want to blacklist folders. Then, just list the directory in that file on a new line, like "C:\PandoraSaver\new" or what not. On start (or when you press reload lists) it will scan that directory and form blacklist patterns out of it.(recursively) Multiple directories can be listed within the file. You can also use it to point to playlists exported from itunes(text format only) or winamp (.m3u), or stick said playlist in the save folder with an extension of ".blacklist.txt" for it to be automatically loaded. CPU wise, it will be significantly rougher but it is also more thorough checking as it doesn't require the organization format to be the same (though the name format does have to be similar).
