L337G33K Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 I'm running Windows 7 Beta as the primary OS and there have been no problems. But what will happen after August 1 Lockdown ? Will there be any data loss ? Quote
Eviltechie Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 I'm going to guess that the computer won't boot, but your data won't go anywhere. Also, knowing microsoft, they will probably try to get you to buy it. Quote
FireTime Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 I'm guessing it's going to be similar to what happens when vista is no longer activated. Windows will enter reduced functionality. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925582 But, I haven't seen any concrete information supporting it. Quote
FireTime Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 I thought it was 1 June 09 ? "The Beta will stop working on August 1, 2009" http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7...structions.aspx EDIT: After reviewing the windows 7 user Q&A page (BTW don't go there, It's like wading through a pool of sewage) It seems that windows seven will abruptly stop working on that date, and you will not be able to recover your data without using another operating system or a live CD of some sort. That sounds scary!By data you mean the software and other things I have got in the windows folders right?I don't wanna lose my music collection. Quote
FireTime Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 From what I could make out, windows would just not work/boot. Nothing would be deleted, or formatted. Quote
Gadwil Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 Simply back-up your data before that point and re-install the OS that you were using before. If you do not then you can only recover your data by using a LiveCD since you will be unable to boot the OS. At least that is what it seems like from what they keep saying in the Q&A. Quote from site: The Windows 7 Beta will stop working on August 1, 2009. To continue using your PC, please be prepared to reinstall a prior version of Windows or a subsequent release of Windows 7 before the expiration date. See Installing the Windows 7 Beta. Your feedback and our continued progress will determine when the final version of Windows 7 becomes available. Here is the link, It seems really clean to me. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/beta-faq.aspx Quote
