kissotdragon Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 After searching the forum for anything on an error I have. I did not find that anyone has gotten the error I am getting when installing webif in step 14. I have flashed the Fon and went straight to installing the packages and dependancies for 2.1 This is the error I get when installing webif ipkg install webif_0.3-10_mips.ipk Installing webif (0.3-10) to root... anthrounit Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 I have been trying to figure that one out for myself, when installing webif i have the fon plugged in with the Ethernet and allow it internet access to try to download the files its looking for but I have still gotten that output. I am currently looking up what to do about it in the hopes of figuring out whats wrong with little success. I did just post a topic in the forum about how hak5 could do a monthly call for help kinda deal with people that are having issues like us, instead of stumbling around in the dark looking for simple fix's to the problem. WreckeD Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 +1 for getting those errors was able to access X-wrt just fine browsed all the tabs checked the logs all working atm, imma just contuine with the guide and see if get any errors down the road oh well if i break it Quote
kissotdragon Posted December 18, 2008 Author Posted December 18, 2008 So I haven't been able to find the package that webif was looking for.../tmp/ipkg-m3BIcu But it appears that things are working ok... I have managed to pwn some noobs. skadoosh!!! Quote
wire Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 downloads.openwrt.org is up and running and all those urls that wget appears to be failing on in your install are accessible. Maybe there was just some server downtime? Quote
chunky Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 had the same problem my self but just kept going and it's working fine upto now Quote
kissotdragon Posted December 18, 2008 Author Posted December 18, 2008 This poses another question. After flashing the FON how many connect to it via wireless (SSH) and connect it to the internet via the ethernet port? From the errors, obviously it is attempting to download a package. Just wondering if there should be a step mentioning hooking it up to an internet connection? I still have not been able to find the package it is looking for from the URL. Its name is obfuscated enough I don't recognize what exactly the package is. Quote
digininja Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 If you have flashed it then the wireless doesn't come up by default, you have to connect by the wired network and enable it. Quote
anthrounit Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 yes but that still doesnt fix the problem with installing the packets and having those packets download whatever they need to get which is where our problem is coming from. Quote
digininja Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 Do you know which packages it is trying to download? If so then you can download them by hand, copy them over and then install manually. If you don't know then you'll need to unpack the package you are trying to install, look at its dependencies and then download them, repeat this till everything gets installed. The dependency list is in the control file which is in control.tar.gz. The package is just a tarball, untar it as usual. The other option is to let your fon have internet access so it can download it or give it access to another device running an ftp/http server then run a packet sniffer on that device and see what file it is requesting. This is a bit harder as you'd also need to do fake dns replies and some other stuff but it would be an interesting thing to work on. Quote
anthrounit Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 but then why was these packages not included with what we downloaded from hak5? Quote
digininja Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 What exactly are you installing this on? The packages that I think are in the bundle you'd have downloaded are mips packages but from your output above you are installing on an atheros based device: Installing webif (0.3-10) to root... anthrounit Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 i am just doing the same as Darren did, I am taking a fon and I am following his steps for putting Jasager on it but i think webif is the problem since everything will work fine all the way up until i try to install jasager and make that moving that web address he said to do. this is the only thing i know didnt go right since it cant download the files it is looking for so my guess is it has to be something we are doing wrong with installing webif. chunky Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 well my self I just contuine and all is working fine Quote

Maybe Fon release a few devices with alternative hardware, I haven't heard of it though. Quote
digininja Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 I've just been told that one of the version of the Fon does come with Atheros cpu rather than Mips, this will be your problem. You'll need to go to the openwrt website and download the atheros packages rather than the mips one, you can then scp them across and install them following the instructions. Quote
anthrounit Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 still after review all files that hak5 bundled together they have that Mips in almost all of the file names so yup i am gonna have to do some hunting but atleast we found out what the problem was after all this time. However I am going to be putting the newer version of jasager on my fon but a file called kmod-gpio and it has atheros and mips in the title in that order, so my guess is that it supports both?? but i do think its for that wifi light that just wont light up after the new firmware is on. anyway Thanks dijininja! Quote
anthrounit Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 So far I just need haserl libruby ruby webif and that should be all but if anyone cares to help by posting some links to ensure that we get the right files please do as i am getting confused having never done this before. Quote
digininja Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 You can try the gpio stuff on your device, I'm not sure what it is compiled for, it is a single kernel module. If you have trouble with it then you can just remove it from the dependencies, Jasager checks to see if the support is there before using it so it should blow up if it isn't there. For the atheros packages, have you tried this: http://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/atheros/ Quote
anthrounit Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 so that will help with the webif problem but i do have another question, i was able to go with the original packages darren put together and i got the web interface of openwrt and all the way up to where you install jasager and move the address around at the end but when trying to revisit the web interface like Darren did it couldn't see it but i think that was a detail left out i keep hearing about a port number to see it but i haven't tried it yet. Quote
anthrounit Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 will it work is what i was asking? Quote
digininja Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 I'm still not sure what you mean. Once you've done the install if you finished Darrens instructions you hit the ip address of the fon in a browser and you should get the Jasager interface. If you didn't do step 19 then Jasager will be listening in port 1471 so you'll have to add :1471 to the end of the ip address when browsing to it. Quote
anthrounit Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 ok so i know its been some time since i have messed with my fon but what you said about the processor being atheros and not mips i thought atheros was the chipset right? anyway im trying the whole thing over again just incase something was currupt but i was even thinking if i get it working using version 2 of jasager bc i think it has something for turning on the wifi light on the fon.
