kudos on the OS you have probably heard of BACKTRAX 3 its the same concept http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BackTrack If not some of those features would be cool I just have horrible compatibility issues on the video an network drivers I will install ubuntu to see how how that works out

Greetings,

Recently I have been working on a distribution of Linux built on

Debian... to get more specific, built on Linux -> Debian -> Ubuntu

8.10 -> Super Ubuntu. Though I will probably build it directly from

Ubuntu (or Debian) sometime in the future.

My distribution has been specialised to suite the requirements of your

everyday (and not so everyday!) pen-tester and white/grey hat hackers.

My sobriquet for this distribution is: HackBuntu.

Though sometime in the (near) future, I will probably rename it to:

Subuntu. (SecurityUbuntu)

I have posted this on this forum to get some advice.

Can someone please recommend me some tools to put on it?

Here is what I have already put into the distribution (excluding

command line ones);

Metasploit

Ettercap

Cain & Abel (via WINE)

NetStumbler (via WINE)

Maltego CE

Nessus

PuTTy

Wireshark

ZeNMap

OPHCrack

As for the command line ones (of what I can remember off hand)

Kismet

NMap

Aircrack-ng

p0f

Please recommend me some more tools to 'put into' this distribution.

Thanks in advance,

Chip D. Panarchy a.k.a: USBHacker

PS: Apart from adding tools, I also plan on editing the GNOME source code (and probably the Linux kernel) to better suite my needs. I may also include a version that contains Rainbow Tables (LiveDVD)

G.G. on what you are doing, even though everyone else thinks it's b.s. I downloaded your distro (the first beta). Not so bad I guess. Why not make something positive of this topic people?! I mean cmon, I dont know shit about making my own distro. Dont really want to.

Hey here's an Idea:

If you can put in some real working drivers for ath5007x wifi card, I'll download that sucker supa fast! (not to mention you would be doing what Ubuntu/Canonical has YET to do.)

btw, anybody tried one of the daily builds for jaunty yet? It wont boot past the first console screen on either of 3 computers (mixed amd and intel respectively) and I even re-downloaded the iso to make sure it wasnt a bad download (also even tried it in Virtual Box)

one question...is it the fact that somebody is trying something that has been done to death?

or is it just that most (not all) of the people on this particular post seem to think the guy is

either stupid or not quite sure whats going on?

seriously most of us had questions probably worse that this when we were learning...

at least when it gets done you would have (another) useful tool to use..

its all part of the learning process hope you do well :-)

It's because this thread has happened over and over again. It's not necessarily a stupid idea, but it's very repetitive and it takes a lot of time, effort and skill to make your own distro. Not to mention that yet another distro would be redundant, especially when there are established distros for this purpose specifically designed and built by experienced Linux users and security gurus. It might be an interesting educational exercise and sure, every project has to start somewhere, but if you have to ask then it's probably not a project for you right now.
