786soul
I like using my rocketdock for icons. Other than that I've just got 2 with recycle bin (too lazy to remove from registry w.e) and some academic honesty crap that is always on there from the university network. VaKo
I cleared mine up after I realized the reason I couldn't find the file I saved to my desktop was because both monitors desktops were entirely full of icons.
metatron
I have Evolution for mail. Firefox for web and Xchat for IRC, that is everything.
Emeryth
How can you waste all that space? I have my entire desktop covered with icons.
PLuNK
Well I don't spend hours looking at my desktop, I also have multiple windows open at any given time so It's annoying to minimise them all just to click a icon on my desktop. Yes I understand there's multiple ways to minimise all the windows in one click but that's annoying & not my default habit.

QFE, thats why there is a quick launch tool bar on you menu bar. On mine there is Terminal, Pidgin, Sykpe, Firefox, Notepad, KeyPass, Gimp, OpenOffice, and Calculator. vector
if you dont want to see the clutter then just hide all your icons till you need them. and use a dock program like object dock.

n1ghtm4r3.1nv4d3r
Before my Vaio's GFX card melted and I formatted my HDD I had around 60 of them on average, sometimes as high as 80.
webjockey
I try not to keep icons on my desktop. I game, so I use Steam to manage those shortcuts, Everything Else Vista sorts out with the Search Function. I used to have Launchy when I used XP, and I used to also have every single programme on my system in my 'Quick' Launch Bar, which took up more than the height of my screen, several times over.
