a-hakr Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 In my canteen at work, they have this new thing called a "cashless money system", tbf its not the best and its not very reliable either. But bassicly how it works is similar to the laundry cards they have at uni. You go up to the machine, put ur cash on and it adds it to your account. But it seems allot cheaper than the ones at Uni, cuz one time when i put my money on, it sed sumthin about a checksum error, and it ate my money and the canteen staff told me to go to the office.. i strolled down to the office and tried to get it fixed, they fixed it, with what appeared to be one of them cheap card readers you can buy off ebay for a few $$, so the idea came to me, that if i bought one of these and put my card in, with the right software.. could i change the money to any value i wanted to? The only problem i can really think of ith that is if the money isnt stored on the card its stored on some kind of network. But i dont think thats the case cuz the tills they use appear to only have a what looks like a serial lea and a power cable going into the back of them So what u fink? is it possible to change, and if it is netowrked cuz i rob my m8s card and clone it cuz im stink.. wud that work?? Cheers.. Quote
DingleBerries Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 First i would use better grammar. Then i would buy a card reader and read the raw data on the card, trying to discern where the cash info is being stored(if on the card at all). The boston subway hack would be a good read to understand some of what you are trying to accomplish Quote

Sparda Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 The card will reference an entry in a database. You could (probably) create clones of other cards. Or just guess numbers of cards, this is particularly easy is the numbers are sequential. Quote
