My Jasager

Recommended Posts

Messed around last night and made a battery pack for my fon. Used a 6 volt rechargable RC car battery, soldered some leads and a connector to the fon, battery, and charger. Will be bench testing it today to see how long it will run on battery. Cost me a total of $16.10 for materials to make this battery pack.

Nice find on an inexpensive rechargeable battery pack.

I'm compiling a list of battery solutions for the FON, and I'd like to include this. Does the battery have a capacity rating (specified in mAh? anywhere on it?)

Also, can can post or send me the part #'s for any components; I want to include all the deails in my list?

Thanks!

Cool, thanks for the info.

That's the best price to energy ratio (mAh) that I've seen to so far. It seems like there are going to be quite a few options for us to choose from.

I'm still testing - but hope to start putting out some data in a week or so.

Cheers.

Very nice! Can you give us some detail on your cabling? I can't tell that well from the pictures.

I'm also curious what it weighs but I guess I'll find out tomorrow when I go to pick one up.

We should start a battery page on the Jasager project wiki http://wiki.hak5.org/wiki/Jasager

I have a connector soldered onto the circuit board beneath the dc input. Soldered an opposite mating connector to the battery, and used the same type of connector to connect to the usb cable. On the battery charger i used the same connector as on the fon circuit board. the connectors were 1.99 per set at radio shack and i used 2 sets.

and the battery itself doesnt weight hardly anything. the whole thing weights less than if i really had cd's in the cd case.

Would close ups of the wiring work better than my description?

PS be sure to keep the polarity of the wiring correct aka + to + and - to -

EDIT: the pic in my original post has the cat5 cable and normal unmodified ac adapter in the case also. its large enough to store everything for on the go versatility aka usb power, battery power, and if all else fails there's ac power.

Also ive been trying to figure out a way to instead of route through the fon to just give a plain webpage that says something along the lines of "quit trying to freeload off my wifi" or something to that effect. any ideas?
