Does anyone have any advice about putting a Pineapple Tetra into a weatherproof sealed NEMA box and mounting it on a pole? I was hoping to get a PoE injector to USB adapter to power it off PoE, mount the Tetra in a box and run the antennas outside? Can the stock antennas be used outside or do I need more weatherproofed omni antennas? Also, what about heat dissipation? Does the Tetra get hot? Also what are the specs needed if use panel antennas? Some of these questions may become obvious when my Tetra Pineapple arrives in the mail, but I wanted to get ahead of the curve. Another question, is there any webhook api that could be added on the Tetra to send a json packet to another server? Or would I have to send data by sql server to a remove mySQL server?
Has anyone used a passive network tap (i.e. throwing star tap or diy) to capture traffic while connected to a gigabit PoE switch? I'm targeting a VoIP phone and am getting spotty results. Here are the details: Phone: Grandstream GXP2130 Switch: Netgear GS108PE Tap: Similar schematic to the throwing star tap The phone boots just fine using PoE with the tap in line and negotiates a stable 10/100 Mbps connection as expected. When plugging into the receive side of the tap, the phone drops the network connection momentarily but recovers. It's inconsistent but sometimes I can capture a small amount of traffic in Wireshark. On the transmit side, I get absolutely nothing. If I disconnect the phone from the PoE ports and plug it into the regular gigabit ports, I have more success. Both transmit and receive can be captured, but the phone has be powered from a normal wall power outlet for this to occur. I'm curious if anyone else has had the same experience? I would really like to be able to capture traffic while the phone is plugged into the PoE port. Also, if you have a PoE switch that is not gigabit, do you have similar issues? I did not find any reference to PoE on the Mark IV forum. I accidentally plugged Ethernet cable from a MacBook Pro Thunderbolt port to the PoE Ethernet connection on my Mark IV. Can doing this damage the Pineapple Mark IV or the Macbook Pro Thunderbolt connector? The Mark IV is only powered by a wall adapter. The PoE should be powering the Mark IV, eliminating the need for a battery pack or wall power adapter, correct [with a power injector]? There should not be power going to the Macbook Pro or the Pineapple as long as there is no power injector inline? I have a Mark V, but pulled my Mark IV from storage to test something. I am not getting communication between the Mac and the Pineapple Mark IV, it may be I just left the Mark IV in a misconfigured state, and that is the reason I can not communicate. I do not have any other Ethernet devices availabel for a few days to verify it's not the MacBook. Thanks Terry
Very disappointed to report my brand new Mk IV just released its magic smoke and is dead. I used a PoE Adaptor (working fine on my Cisco 7940) into the PoE port and within seconds there was a "crack" and a puff of smoke. It had previpusly been working perfectly via the power connector. I opened the box hoping it was a simple diode or cap - but unfortunately it destroyed a small IC. So it's now in the bin. 8-( Super-disappointed as I didn't do anything cowboyish. Please be very careful if you're looking to use PoE. If you're like me, you can't afford to just go and buy another one. 8( Cheers, Jason
