  1. Hi, I've just received my WiFi Pineapple and have been running into some issues, of which I've partially fixed by using the manual and this forum. But I have been noticing some odd issues with the wireless interfaces in the web management interface. They either don't enable (start up) or stay up. For instance I have successfully connected to a wireless router on wlan1 (Which is the only interface in the Network tab), but the connection information states I'm not connected. Furthermore the network tab will often show that wlan1 is not enabled (Even though there is an active connection) and upon enabling the interface it will swap wlan0 to enabled. I can still download infusions and get an active internet connection whilst wlan1 states it's not enabled. I find that rather strange. Another thing that should be noted is that before doing the firmware update I had a wireless connection to the web interface for initial setup however this tends to disappear or not be available at boot. Just to list some questions relating to this post: Is this a problem with the newest firmware? Can this be fixed? Why doesn't the wireless access point/connection start at boot? As I don't full understand this part of the unit, do I have to change something to make it active? Thanks, -Skye
  2. Hello everyone, I've been looking for the past couple of hours for the best wireless dongle to buy, which I found out that is the : alfa awus036nha. But then a second before purchasing I was thinking to myself, could be that it's not compatible with my mac ?. So the question is, is it compatible with my Mac OS 10.9.4 version ? From a first look it seems that it won't be compatible and that the one that is recommended to buy is awus036nh. What would you suggest me to get ?
  3. Hello! I have a problem with the Pineapple Mark V, initially worked fine, but after the mobile devices (iphone, any Android) can not connect. Pineapple has Firmware Version 1.4.1. Downgrade try to make it but the problem persists. Video: "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4m1zhtylymo" how to fix this...
  4. Hey everyone. This will be my first post here on Hak5 forums, and first I'd like to say I love all the tech talk. I have an old Alfa AP51 device, and am trying to do something, but it was given to me by a friend who either put Pineapple on it or bought it with Pineapple. I'm having a problem of one logging into the device. When I link to it, and enter it just says "Nothing to see here" I was hoping I could flash it with the default firmware. I have tried looking up all I could but was surprised to know that I couldn't find very much on the topics. Another thing I need to know is, is it possible with the default firmware to wirelessly bridge the AP51 to a NETGEAR router and pull the signal over to it, and then to the computer through bridging the connections from wireless to wired(ethernet)? So basically I need to know how I can go about flashing it (on Windows 8) and if the bridging thing will work. I previously had an Alfa AWUS036H but it broke so basically I'm trying to substitute. Thanks everyone for feedback, and I would like to say I greatly appreciate it. :)
  5. Has anyone set the dip switches to autostart randomroll? If not is there another way randomroll could be started wirelessly via ssh?
  6. I was hoping that when I put my wireless network card in monitor mode, I will be able to sniff everything in my WLAN. But I was surprised to see that I can only sniff prob requests from other devices connected to the same AP as my laptop. Even though I have disabled any sort of encryption. Even when I disconnect and reconnect my android, I cannot see the association request. Does this has to do with channels and frequencies??
  7. I built a PirateBox last year and I want to take the concept and expand it. I'm talking about a wireless network that has no access to the internet, but has local sites(wiki pages, blogs, chat rooms, filesharing) and people can communicate over it. Unfortunately, I don't have the resources to complete this project to my desired end right now, but that's not going to stop me from getting started. My idea is to deploy this in my college campus. I'm not transferring into a university for at least another year; this would be something fun to work on and keep my head focused on what I love to do. I'll start simple: a basic form of filesharing, a way to chat, and of course an imageboard. I'm thinking I'll take an old computer and turn it into a dedicated webserver(linux?) and connect it to a router. I'd love to find a cheap, yet fast, router that can run dd-wrt or openwrt. Ideally, I want to make the project easily expandable. Where all I need is to add more, better equipment and be able to handle more users without much lag. I know Darren was speaking about projects like this in a talk he did at some hackerspace(Hak5 1426.3), yet I've found little on the web on it. I probably don't know what I'm looking for. I'd love any input and help from the hak5 community. Thanks in advance! Edit: They're called Mesh Networks
  8. Hey guys. I'm new to Hak5 so please take it easy if I say something stupid... Anyways, I was wondering if there was a way to splicing a cat5e cable, with something like a t-junction connector, and then broadcast the traffic wirelessly on a private network? I'd really appreciate any ideas and you can also get me on gmail @ alaric.chidom@gmail.com
  9. When I turn on both wlan interfaces and turn one on for client mode (wlan1) set the pre-shared key, save and then commit - after I commit the changes the client (wlan1) interface becomes disabled and the pre-shared key field is blank. Radio0 is still enabled but no longer linked to wlan1. Wlan0 and radio1 is still turned on. I've tried doing a factory reset and only configuring client mode and it still exhibits the same behavior. I'm trying to create an access point on one interaface and internet connection share the client connected interface that's connected to my mobile device. Maybe I'm missing something? Is what I'm trying to accomplish not possible? I'm fully updated and using Wi-fi Manager to configure the interfaces.
  10. I cannot figure out how to fix my wireless connection sharing between wlan1, and wlan0. Devices connecting to my pineapple do not receive internet despite wlan1 being connected in client mode to my wireless network. Internet sharing works fine when I tether my pineapple to my laptop over Ethernet. I have done factory restores (and have applied "wifi detect > /etc/config/wireless && reboot"), have installed the wireless manager infusion (and tried using the "ICS" tab). Any suggestions for something else to try? Thanks in advance
  11. Description: This a a very simple and minimalistic infusion that allows for a script-managed wireless connection for connection sharing. Although I did like the feature set of WifiManager, I personally prefer a more minimalist and script-based approach. This infusion provides network status information as well as an interface to manage the script. Note: When adjusting the variables in the wireless script, maintain the quotation formatting! This is required for the script to function correctly. Feature Set: Script Editor: A basic text editor that allows for editing of the script on the fly. Status Monitor: Outputs important information on your network connection to the small and large tiles. Including: iwconfig, ifconfig, and ping. Example Output: 802.11bg ESSID:"MyGuest" wlan1 2.437 GHz Access Point: AE:22:0A:32:34:F9 Quality=70/70 Signal level=-4 dBm Link PING google.com ( 56 data bytes 64 bytes from 17.938 Auto Refresh Enable/Disable and Logging in Small Tile AutoStart Enjoy!
  12. I live in a deep, off-grid situation and currently use satellite internet. Satellite is inferior. I have access to an ISP's fixed wireless tower 4 miles away, but there is tall terrain between me and them. I need to circumvent the tall terrain. So I would like to put a repeater on a cliff location (1 mile from me) that has line-of-site to me and the also tower. I have a spare solar array to power the gear. This may be the solution for me. A "Ubiquiti NB-5G22 NanoBridge M5" seems like it has potential for me. I'd like to warmly ask two questions... Can anybody please help me with selecting and purchasing equipment to do this? Or can anbyody point me to somebody who can help? Here is my LOS Study if it helps: http://www.brandvandal.com/transfercase/ecovillage-LOS-study.pdf Any help is appreciated.
  13. Hey guy's so recently I was working on an APP that used GPS to locate the positions Latitude & Longitude of a device. Now that all fine and dandy when you're outdoors but as soon as you go indoors its a whole different ball game, because the device does not have clear line of sight to the satellites it cannot accurately (within a reasonable margin of error 1-2 meters) get the correct position of the device. So GPS was out the windows and I started looking at other solutions and figured where better to ask these questions than hak5. So far what i have learned is that in doors the position of a device can be accurately calculated using WiFi. Now I know to some of you boffins out there this will be nothing knew but this is new mind blowing territory for me and I am having a hard time wrapping my head around just how it works and was wondering if you guys could shed some noob friendly light on the whole subject of WiFi positioning and how it works. From what I have read and understood so far you take a number of WiFi routers position them throughout a building and by doing this you can accurately locate the position of the device in the building based on WiFi signal strength of the routers? < thats the bit i don't get / am getting mixed of with. Basically I need a cheap solution for wifi positioning. There are guys out there that all ready have bespoke products avalable but i am sure they are crazy expensive like these guys over at Navizon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sw7gc8ic5vM Also I found this video intresting, istead of wifi these guys mention using bluetooth as a means of positioning instead of wifi http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0UbrkJpypc I hope we can all discuss this subject further as I really need to implement a solution like this and i just find it pretty dam interesting in general. Also as a side note I think i may have accidently have stumbled accross why google street view cars collected all that wifi info they were not suppose to be collecting. WIFI POSITIONING!!! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wi-Fi_positioning_system just a hunch but you never know! and if that wasn't enough take a listen to this guy and play close attention when he talks about drivers! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Skifba2SMpE
  14. Whats the best way to lock up a system when a wirless device belonging to the owner is 21" from the keyboard? I had to run outside and help my frantic neighbor extinguish a bush fire his kid started by throwing a bottle rocket into a pile of dry leaves yesterday. As I was hosing it down it occurred to me I left my outlook open. I'm looking for a ubiquitous, OS agnostic, device or secure protocol such as bluetooth that will lock up the system in the event of an emergency. The incident reminded me of a famous story I read....
  15. How do I set my my wireless card or access point to ignore deauthentication requests completely? There's a kid down the street running a wifi jammer. I've been monitoring this activity for some time. Altogether I find this activity amusing but also annoying. I'm not reallly concerned with activity. Kids will be kids. But I would like to figure out how to just ignore deauthentication attacks. Any help would be awesome. B)
  16. Hello Dear Hak5 friends and family. I currently have a EnGenius ENH700EXT Access Point on my property, mounted in the center of the property up high on top of one of my garages. Signal is so so, I just bought this few weeks ago. It is a dual band, the omni antennas seem basic. Maybe you can recommend better antennas (2.4 and 5ghz) I barely get any coverage, my lot is 5-acres so it is large, and I would like it to cover the whole premises, including the homes. Any suggestions? I can put another one out somewhere, but electricity and ethernet is not as easy. I was thinking of something VERY powerful to just cover that range. I wouldn't want to get more than 2 units, I would like just 1. But so far the antennas on thise ENH700EXT isn't cutting it. Maybe just better antennas. Thanks, K
  17. For the full tour of the application, please view http://www.elithecomputerguy.com/ETCGCommunity/index.php?do=/forum/thread/65/aircrack-ngui/. Mods, I am not redirecting to another site for any ad purposes. Merely because you have an image limit. So, the abridged version. My program is a graphical interface to Aircrack-NG, dsniff, and nmap (at least the main part). If you go to "Other Tools", it includes other network/computer security tools that you can use (including Wireshark, MAC Changer, BURP Suite, TOR Network). My overall goal of the application is to be a "swiss army knife" for those learning network security and network professionals alike. Let me know if you can help develop, run quality control, or beta test. It's currently up on BitBucket and you can get the link from http://aircrackngui.blogspot.com. Also, let me know what you think. Good idea, bad idea, done too often, doesn't compete with other suites like it? Thank you for your time.
  18. Hi just wondering wether any one could clear this up for me, I have a Huawei wireless modem the 3g type now when I'm running wireshark i noticed that it send a constant stream of probe responses to ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff, now am i right in thinking that an AP will only send a response when receiving a request and why would you send a response to ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff also this is a constant stream not just once in a while and I cant see any probe requests being sent to the AP either. Is this normal or is there something wrong ?
  19. those anybody Know to install alfa awus036h driver on ubuntu 13.04 or actived in iwconfig with out the drivers??
  20. "wireless" is not re-enabling. please can somebody help me fix it without restoring to factory defaults as i have already installed all modules so i don't want to do it over again. i think this started to occur once i selected "remove config", inside "networking tab".
  21. G'day guys and gals, I'm new to this forum and I think HAK5 is the best source of IT security related info on YouTube because there's endless information and I've learnt a lot! It's probably been discussed many times on this forum, but here I go anyway because I think it's the right time to ask my question: Is there any way to connect to my ZTE MF91 personal 4G WiFi hosptspot (802.11n/g/b) with the Pineapple Mark IV wirelessly? Basically I want to somehow relay my 4G hotspot through the Pineapple so the internet becoms available without the need for cables and extraneous devices. This would reduce the need for my laptop using ICS. If there is a way to do it, I'm going to buy the Elite Pineapple Mark IV kit sometime over the next few weeks, so excited :) I just think it's great that there's a device out there with a CFW that does all these things. I could certainly add the Mark IV to my pentesting equipment.
  22. hi there i am experimenting with wpa/wpa2 basically i've locked myself i've installed ubuntu on my laptop and forgot wpa2 code for my router idoit move i know i have tryed using a wordlist size 33gb and 10gb one and no luck so then i tried reaver and i gave up after 19 hours i can still use xbox360 and other machines but this laptop is my main and my favourite i am begging for help please
  23. I am having wireless trouble at home. My Wifi randomly disconnects. Sometimes frequently and other times sparadicly but it happens on a daily basis. It has to be some sort of interference. I've gone through 4 routers and jumped around channels but the problem remains. Will the ubertooth one help me identify what is causing the interference and which channel i should change my wireless too. I have a 2.4ghz/5ghz router. I saw that the "Wi-Spy" will probably help identify my problem but I don't want to spend close to a grand in cash when I can spend just a little over $100 bucks at the hakshop for the ubertooth one. Any help/suggestions/comments are greatly appreciated.
  24. How can I make "BT5r3 64bit" HOST (not VM) create a network interface for USB wi-fi adapter? "BT5r3 64bit GNOME" HOST won't create a network interface for USB wireless adapter, but "BT5r3 64bit GNOME" VM creates a network interface such as wlan0. Hello folks, I had installed "Backtrack 5 R3 64bit GNOME" in an External USB HDD. BT5r3 "automatically" recognizes the built-in wireless/wired card and show its network interface as wlan0/eth0 respectively. It also detects the USB wireless adapter via "lsusb" command, but it doesn't create a network interface such as wlan1. "lsusb" command shows: -------------- Atheros Communications, Inc. AR9271 802.11n The USB wireless adapter is supported by the preloaded drivers of BT5r3 because... When I install "BT5r3 64bit GNOME" in a VM, it "automatically" detects my USB wireless adapter, so it creates a network interface as "wlan0". I had tried different ways that I had found in the internet but it doesn't seem to work for me. Some of the things that I've done so far: - at first I install driver ath9k_htc, do lsmod, modprobe, reboot PC etc... - didn't work for me - install also ndiswrapper... - didn't work either - airmon-ng ONLY shows the built-in wifi, NOT the USB wi-fi adapter. The built-in wi-fi is named "wlan0" by the HOST: Interface Chipset Driver wlan0 Atheros ath9k - [phy0] - I already upgraded BT5r3... - didn't work - in the end I found out that THERE IS NO NEED for the USB wi-fi driver installation because "BT5r3 in VM" automatically detects USB wi-fi adapter and creates an interface as wlan0. - meaning to say that upon installation of BT5r3, BT5r3 has the driver for this type of hardware USB wi-fi adapter. - I modify the file in the HOST /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules - I used the same file in the VM that has the USB wireless info, then replace the HOST file - also try to renamed the HOST file built-in wi-fi "wlan0" to "wlan1", still no interface for USB wi-fi - let's say as wlan0 (I'm hoping that after rebooting, the HOST will create another interface for USB wireless adapter) - I also try to erase this HOST file then reboot PC, hoping that the new file that it will create has additional interface such as wlan1. How can I make my HOST "BT5r3 64bit GNOME" creates a network interface for my USB wirelesss adapter? Thanks. :)
  25. I have been trying to figure out a way to get several of my Win 7 laptops to be able to automatically create / initialize an ad-hoc network when they boot up, or connect to the already initialized ad-hoc network if it is present. I want all of the computers to automatically connect to each other. Think 5 robots coming online and about to interact with each other, with no AP, or Router nearby. I have been working with netsh commands and setupSNK.exe, but no joy. It seems Windows blocked all the automatic connections for ad-hoc networks due to some security concerns. Does any one know of a way to get Windows to allow an automatic connection of this type?
