Hey! I am running kali linux the latest build. I am running it from a USB drive in persistence mode. I have a macbook pro and it won't boot from the USB so I have to boot from the live CD till the GRUB and then choose live usb persistence to login to the system. I wanted to change my root passwd so while I was logged into my root account, I issued the command passwd root That asked me for a new passwd twice and I entered it both the times correctly. Later when I rebooted the system, it wont accept the new passwd (not the old one also) and wont let me login saying authentication failure. I have a second account on the box called "phantom" which does not have sudo privileges and both sudo passwd root sudo adduser phantom sudo does not work! Directly trying to edit the sudoers file from this second account does not let me do so cause I dont have sudo rights. Pressing 'e' in GRUB when I select the USB option does not work. What is the way around this? I can't afford to reinstall and lose the system. Any help is appreciated...

Easy2Boot is a collection of grub4dos menus and grub4dos batch files and utilities. You can make a multiboot USB flash drive or USB hard drive (NTFS or FAT32) with the Easy2Boot files just by copying them to a grub4dos bootable USB drive or use the Make_e2B_USB.Drive.cmd automated batch file or linux .sh file. Once you have made the grub4dos USB drive (or added the Easy2Boot files to your existing grub4dos mutilboot drive), all you need to do is just copy over your payload/ISO files. For instance, if you copy over your linux ISOs, Windows (XP, Vista, 7, 8, SVR2K8R2, SVR2012) install ISOs, floppy .IMA image files, .IMG floppy disk image files, Hackintosh .dmg and bootable .bin files to the correct folder, when the USB pen boots it will list your payload files in the grub4dos menu. You can then run any of them. You don't need to run a special utility to add new payload files or remove payload files to/from the USB drive. Also nearly ALL linux ISO will work just by copying over the ISO file - even those linux ISOs that usually need special cheat codes will just work! A list of those that have been tested and just work can be found here. For those few payload files that do not work (e.g. OphCrack), you can also add a .mnu file. The .mnu is simply a grub4dos menu entry text file that is automatically added to the Easy2Boot menu when you boot. For instance, by using a .mnu file together with an ISO file, it is possible to directly boot several linux ISO files each with a separate persistence file and all from the same USB drive (e.g. Puppy Precise, Porteus , PClinux, Fedora, Ylmf, StartOS, BackTrack5). You can also UEFI-boot from most payloads provided you convert them to .imgPTN files (free MPI tool provided) - e.g. boot UEFI linux's, KonBoot, Windows Installers, WinToGo, MemTest86, HP utilities, etc. Different languages supported, very configurable, password protected, multiple wallpapers, true partition hiding, optional monthly PIN number to protect against unauthorised use, etc. Video Demo here You can find the Easy2Boot V1 project on the www.easy2boot.com site.

The following error appears when I try to install Windows7 on my 360GB HD: Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the Setup log files for more information. I used the diskpart utility to clean the HD, create a partion and format it as ntfs. detail disk shows the following: Vol## ltr labl fs type size Status info 2 C NTFS Partition 335GB Healthy I got Ubuntu12 on the first HD, set to load w/out Grub. I'm trying to set up a dual boot (Ubuntu/Win7) for a friend. The Ubuntu site recommends installing their OS using some kind of wasabi.exe file or some crap. I don't want to re-install the entire OS! Anyone know how to force the Win7 setup app to detect the new partition/drive through the cmdline or where the setup logs is stored? I even let clean all run overnight - no errors.

I am trying to make a usb multipass with backtrack 5 r3 on it but have failed do to an error when booting bt5 up, i am using the latest version of grub (grldr) and no matter what i try i get this error (initramfs) Unable to find a medium containing a live file system [/CODE] my menu.lst is [CODE] color green/black black/green timeout 60 title BackTrack 5 root(bd) kernel /bt5/casper/vmlinuz file=/cdrom/preseed/custom.seed boot=casper text splash vga=791-- initrd /bt5/casper/initrd.gz [/CODE] can someone please help, i have looked through other posts regarding this but they seemed not to work thanks
