1. If the FBI knocks at your door, I was never a part of this thread. <.< >.> **gone** **EDIT** I just watched the vid. Love it.
2. Ohh, forgot to say it is a wired controller. We can't get XP to recognise it. I used Xpadder to check if it is connect it, as it sees any joystick plugged in. **EDIT** WhollyMindless: I almost never use MS to find drivers. :D
3. Hello, me & my friend were trying to get a 360 controller to work on a computer. The computer is Windows XP SP3 & it does not recognize it. Google keeps returning Windows XP SP1/2 drivers. Is there no support for SP3?
4. Rab: hmm i play games in windowed mode, no shitty software for me thanks -- I wouldn't call it shitty. It works well just having it save icon positions, & I never have problems. If you dont need it, no prob. I also play all my games windowed. :D ===== StarchyPizza & foo, I never saw it in the forums either. I was introduced to this program by a friend years ago. ===== foo, I dont get it. [the quote you wrote] :D
5. Mmmk then, thanks for the info. I'll use that next time I need it.
6. hmm? Whats unloading? I dont think that would be any different than moveing the DLL, is it? I backed it up, so I think that would count as moving.
7. huh? ohh, I was talking about files I tried to delete not deleting. I wasnt talking about lost passwords. :D
8. mmk, so i tried EasyBCD. I remember trying the program last time I made my thread. It failed again. T~T I dont know why my computer will not boot XP without the CD! I guess I'll try the VMware thing later on. A bit busy at the moment.
9. Ohh, yeah I to like portable apps, but I rather be 100% sure it is installed correctly. Reg keys & all. I keep a backup of all my programs in my flash drive & another HDD partition. Also, I will sometime give a copy of the apps to my friends, so it would be better if they know they can uninstall it easily.
10. KeelBug: I was not planning on moving to Linux unless I had to, to get the boot working. I will try this EasyBCD. Wait for my edit. :D VaKo: My computer has 2GB RAM & a 2.1Ghz Dual Processor. I assume my computer will be able to run virtual computers then. X3N/Emeryth: mmm.... I do believe I have attempted multiple USB Linuxes in the past. I could never get USB boot working. I think my computer was incompatible with USB booting. Now that it died & I am on a newer computer, I may try it again. Is there something I have to do, other than copy a USB Ver. Linux ISO to my thumb drive?
11. I Googled how to disable the sync window forever without changing too many things, but found no results. I thought back Process Monitor which appeared on Hak5 during the Virus Zoo segment. [big thanks guys!] With Process Monitor, I found out about a DLL called "PortableDeviceApi" & deleted it. I Googled the DLL, but did not find anything detailed on what it is. [or wasnt looking hard enough] Woot! WMP11 STFUed about syncing my thumb drive, threatening to wipe my drive if I hit OK. I restarted the computer & saw no errors or anything bad, so I assume everything is OK... If anyone else wants to experiment & find flaws with this method, the file is: C:\Windows\System32\PortableDeviceApi.dll
12. ohh crap! Thats awesome! I can make an entire fake computer setup? [virtual] Would that take longer to install both fake OSes, since I would have 2 OSes running? I mean my real Vista & the fake XP / another OS are both running. I read nLite could chop down the install, so that is another process I have to go through. If I go virtual, then I need the time 1st. Now I am a bit busy, which is why I was hoping for an encyclopedia. ====================== I read the gento.org guide. There was nothing has said that GRUB requires Linux. I assume it does, since I never heard of # emerge grub in Command Prompt. I was hoping to learn about something that would easily & safely allow me to setup any 2 [or more] OSes together. I have Vista+XP & if GRUB needs Linux, then I am forced to chuck in another OS. I posted about my boot problem before, but it did not solve my problem. I cant repair the boot of my computer. I installed XP into my computer, but my computer will boot Vista. I have to boot XP with a CD every time I need XP. I was not looking into installing Linux at the moment, but I wanted to learn of another booting method that I might use. ====================== Culile, I am using Vista, which is my default since there are no drivers for XP on my computer. I dont have a boot.ini in Vista. Since it boots Vista, I assume it will ignore boot.ini if I made one. Just to let you know, in case you have a solution: My XP's boot.ini says multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(3)\WINDOWS= The bcdedit.exe thing is fugging confusing. New stuff to learn. I know boot.ini is not secure cause a virus could fuk it up, but whatever.. "Winners dont do wares", says Hak5, & a lot of wares have viruses. ====================== PLuNK, I did not say what the info was for because my last attempt to fix my problem failed. No auto fix [inside Vista/XP & the OS CDs] will fix my boot setup. Fedora is another Linux, right? ====================== Yes DingleBerry, I am serious. :D
13. No thanks, I rather not have a portable one, as I would need to plug in my flash drive every time. ================= OYFG I hated that UAC crap! I shot it, stabbed it, burned it, car-ran-overed it, electrocuted it, & drowned it hecks a long ago! So many things started working after. Lemme install it again... WHAT?!! IT WORKS!! WTF Why? ..well, whatever the reason is, w00t! **EDIT** dAMMIT! That was just the installation & starting up. It will not bring up the program when I fail to delete. **EDIT** again Ohhh, I right click the file, then unlock in Vista... I was trying to make it come up on a failed delete. Is there a way to make it pop up when I fail to delete a file? I have to manually bring it up now.
14. ok, so I did reading on the MBR & stuff.. MBR gets confusing with the hex, so I am not sure what I understand. This threw me way off; scroll half way down: http://mirror.href.com/thestarman/asm/mbr/GRUB.htm ============= Install linux on this computer? No thanks. I R equals a n00b. If I fail at "repairing it", then I cant get help online. :D Grub requires a Lunix OS right? Would I be able to use the boot.ini to boot a Linux?
15. theres a program called unlocker for both vista and xp and it works fine on both... Thats the program I used on XP. I cannot install it on my Vista. Is it really for Vista?
16. Ohh, I never mentioned that I do: - Uninstall anything that is not used [they can be redownloaded anyways] - Delete temp junk - Stop booting programs that are not essential - Defrag [a couple times this month.. maybe 4? was experimenting with batch defrag] * I do have CCleaner. :D - I have used it. Often I should add. It clears my Temporary Internet cache for me, but I do clear that manually anyways when I am done Googling a thousand things. [ok, maybe not quite 1000] * My storage drive [111GB], is about 75% full of backup installers. *.exe & disk images mostly. I recently updated most of the installers. [didnt like the new "DAEMON Tools" setup] ============ I actually used rmdir /s /q %temp%\ to clear my temp stuff before. HEY del /f /s /q %systemdrive%\*.dmp del /f /s /q %etc... /s in Delete is Subdirectory. You may be deleting files needed by other programs! ...well, I understand logs can go BB, but you never know in rare cases, .dmp may means something else in another program. I dont remember what exts, but I remember programs fighting over file types until I chose the defaults. ================= Yesh, you do remember well for not having windows for a while. :D Whats QEF? I really need to defrag the locked system files, other than page files. I defragged my page file by turning off page files, restart, defrag, enable page again. It would be better to have a program to do it before boot though. Is there a defragger that allows me to select where I would want to place certain files? I want to force some 40GB of GCFs to the end of my HDD, as they got fragmented to 1000+ with one of my recent backups. I wrote a batch-semi-GUI chooser to extract from RARs on DVD to Steam; Just the specific GCFs I need for the games I choose. I use JkDefrag, but the only way for me to do this is to defrag my entire computer, instead of GCFs only. I ask way to many random questions. lol My brain over flows Google.
17. I was wondering if anyone knows where to find good info on how these multi booters work. I am not the noob that wants a guide on how to do it. I am the noob that wants to LVL up out of a noob. I do not want to setup a multi boot. Rather, I want to learn all the the gears, nuts, & bolts of it. =================== For example, how does this "Grub" work? Using Google, I would most likely get "How-to-guides", weird ":(){:|:&};:" commands, & other non-understandable info. [ok, so maybe not ":(){:|:&};:" ;) ] I wanted to read something like: "...So Grub creates a partition in blah hard drive & when read on startup, the computer will make Vista boot by blah BIOS blah boot.ini from drive (R:)." [of course I made that all up; thats why it doesnt make sense :D] =================== When I installed XP, it created boot.ini crap in my storage HDD. HDD with partitions "C:\" & "M:\" both contain OSes. HDD with partition "R:\" is my storage drive I stuck on. Why did XP install to "M:\Windows\" but make "R:\boot.bed" & "R:\boot.ini"? =================== I think knowing how things work is better than following instructions. Noobs wont have to keep asking for "how-to"s for everything, & can figure out for themselves. It even applies to real life situations.
18. Hak 5 showed a program for XP that unlocks files in use & allows delete. Before I break my fist on my table, does anyone know of one that works for Vista? Half of the time I have folders [empty or not] that are NOT in friggin' use, but Vista keeps saying it IS. [no, restart does not help] How I delete them is I go to the directory & make a batch file with: rmdir /s /q "Stupid Folder\" del del.bat then run it. This is every time I have a locked folder. Vista seems to "Use" a directory [probably probing] most the time I click a folder. Then when I hit delete, it wont work. I ask here instead of google because I cannot trust the sources out there when downloading random programs. Thanks for reading.
19. LOL 00-00 [ 6 ] [23.08%] 01-05 [ 5 ] [19.23%] 06-10 [ 6 ] [23.08%] 11-15 [ 1 ] [03.85%] 16-20 [ 2 ] [07.69%] 21-30 [ 3 ] [11.54%] 40-50 [ 1 ] [03.85%] 51+ . [ 2 ] [07.69%] 51+ is kinda a lot. Anyone organize the icons on the desktop?
20. huh? OSes need oiling now? I don't know how to Oil Vista, so I dont know. When my class crap finishes up, ima reinstall Vista. Has not even been a year yet.. T~T
21. Bad title, but could not think of anything good & short. If you ever ask me about Vista, I would answer "Lots of bugs". I hope this one can be fixed. ==================================== I wrote an AutoRun.inf for my thumb drive: [autorun] label=RandomClown's Secure TD icon=RC.ico action=RandomClown's Thumb Drive [3.8GB] shell\1truecryptmount=Mount RandomClown's Virtual HDD [3.75GB] shell\1truecryptmount\command=TrueCrypt.exe /q background /lR /m rm /v Files.tc shell\2truecrypt=Truecrypt shell\2truecrypt\command=TrueCrypt.exe shell\3SIW=System Information for Windows shell\3SIW\command=System\SIW.exe shell\4Notepad=Notepad++ shell\4Notepad\command=Notepad.bat shell\5Checksum=Checksum shell\5Checksum\command=System\mucommander.exe The AutoRun works fine on XP, but on my Vista, it only shows the icon & nothing more. My XP has autorun removable devices disabled, so I would right click the drive has the "RC.ico" & is labeled "RandomClown's Thumb Drive [3.8GB]" & click on one of the options listed above. Before on my Vista, it would show everything. As time past, it randomly stopped showing the options listed above. Now on Vista, it shows the icon, but the name is "Removable Disk" & the options are never displayed. It gets really annoying cause I have to open the drive & type in the address bar "truecrypt.exe" & mount or whatever I may need. Does anyone know a solution? PS: My Vista seems to be degrading...the desktop icons has stopped refreshing. I have to hit F5 to show newly created files. Thanks for reading. **EDIT** Grammar fix. Use "a" before a constanant & "an" before vowels.
22. I tried them & most of them failed, but super thanks! [1 of the 6 works in my real code] I have working codes now! Woot!!!! Ohh, javascript fails completely if I add a "name" & "id" to the same tag. That means no weird.
23. I tried the code but it did not work for me. T~T Also, what did you mean by "You should not try to access Elements directly."? Using element ID <body> <form Id="Menu" method="post" action=""> <input Id="Height1" type="text" size="10" value="FUK!"> </form> <input type="button" onclick="Save()" style="color:ff0000" value="Plz work..."> <script type='text/javascript'> function Save(){ document.getElementById("Menu").getElementById("Height1").value="OMFG WORKS!"; } </script></body> No ID, using Name <body> <form name="Menu" method="post" action=""> <input name="Height1" type="text" size="10" value="FUK!"> </form> <input type="button" onclick="Save()" style="color:ff0000" value="Plz work..."> <script type='text/javascript'> function Save(){ document.getElementByName("Menu").getElementByName("Height1").value="OMFG WORKS!"; } </script></body> No difference? http://hakhouse.blogspot.com/
24. for about 2 hours now, this bit of code has been fuking with me. I have looked it up, but no guide fixes it. I cannot make this simple thing work! <form id="Menu" method="post" action=""><input name="Height1" type="text" size="10" value="FUK!"></form> <input type="button" onclick="Save()" style="color:ff0000" value="Plz work..."> <script type='text/javascript'> function Save(){ document.Menu.Height1.value="OMFG WORKS!"; } </script> Ohh, in other site forums, when talking code debugging, people usu. make guesses & leave. The guesses usu. fail, depending on the difficulty of the coding, making my question last another couple days... If you dont mind, could you try your theories before posting? Thanks for reading. **EDIT** Just to remind, the code would be over 1000 lines, so this is an isolation of the code & I changed the values cause its annoying me.
