  1. Quite well I must say, its fast and assuming the wireless card is supported I'd say it runs better than backtrack. Keep in mind of course that this only includes wireless and network based tools. Overall I think it runs much faster and if all you need are wireless tools and your running a netbook then its a much better choice than backtrack
  2. Hey guys, I've working on this for about 4-5 nights now and figured I'd put my progress up. It still need some work and I have yet to get images or video of this thing online yet. But I've the iso online if you'd like to try. This is just Ubuntu Netbook Remix 10.04 with backtrack 4F sources. I've installed just wireless pen tools to the distro, I was hoping to get it under 700mb but.... we'll maybe next time. Anyway I know that the AR5001 and RTL8187 works and is fully supported, others should work as well (all that worked with backtrack, should) though I only have those two to test with. If your interested you can download it from either my new site or my torrent (torrent should be faster as I'm seeding and using a web seed) http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/5664658 http://deauththis.com/?page_id=3&did=1 As I said its nowhere near finished but... It looks nice, getting online is easy (as is using the tools) its pretty much straight forward. I'll add lots of documentation next time around. NOTE: If you decide to try it you must right click on the network icon and disable wireless before using tools like airodump-ng because if the network manager is using the device it will not work. So be sure to uncheck your wireless networking in the manager before using such tools to ensure they work properly. There is bound to be some bugs but I figured it was worth working on, I only need mine for wireless work and this is faster on my netbook than backtrack 3 or 4 is so I figured it was worth doing and putting up here for anyone else who wants to build upon it or use it. I have remastersys installed on it already so it should be really easy for even new users to add to this and rebuild it.
  3. Dude, you kick ass! Thanks man, that worked perfect!
  4. SOLVED For RTL8187 - Install Madwifi For AR5001 - Install ATH5K I've been using backtrack 4 final for some time now and packet injection works just fine with my rtl8187 and my Athros card in my Asus 900A eee. I wanted to use aircrack-ng and its acompaning tools on ubuntu netbook remix 10.04. But I'm getting error messages. I installed the drivers from the backtrack repository and it didn't help. I've been trying to get this to work for some time now with no luck. Interestingly it works find on Linux Mint 8. Is it the kernel version? Anyway here is the error I get when running Interface Chipset Driver wlan0 RTL8187 rtl8187 - [phy0] nettrack@Net-Track:~$ sudo airodump-ng wlan0 ioctl(SIOCSIWMODE) failed: Device or resource busy ARP linktype is set to 1 (Ethernet) - expected ARPHRD_IEEE80211, ARPHRD_IEEE80211_FULL or ARPHRD_IEEE80211_PRISM instead. Make sure RFMON is enabled: run 'airmon-ng start wlan0 <#>' Sysfs injection support was not found either. EDIT It turns out the network manager caused all the problems. I disabled it and it all works great now EDIT *EDIT Only my RTL8187 shows up in the list, my atheros card does not. Ideas? EDIT- Again Ok, Ive installed madwifi manually and now my wireless card shows up as wifi0 ath0 BUT. If i run airodump-ng wifi0 nothing happens when airodump loads, it dosnt even show elapsed time. using ath0 gives me the same old errors. I solved it, needed to install Ath5K drivers for that card.
  5. :) Yeah man VAko's been here a really long time and is in fact admin here. and I have to agree with what has been said here... About TPB though, did you get your copy of windows there? someone could have inserted a bot into the installation disc.
  6. I have an asus 900A eee pc, I have windows xp installed on its 4GB SSD and backtrack 4 installed on a 2GB sd card. I can boot from either drive/card just fine, my problem is within the bios if I set it to boot from removable media it does not seem to work. But if I set the 1st hard drive as my sd card and my second drive as my ssd I can boot into backtrack from my sd card without any problems. The thing is I'd rather not change my bios settings each and every time I want to switch my operating system and the drive is too small for a dual boot setup. I was wondering if you guys think it might be possible to modify BT4s boot loader, It has an option to boot from the 1st hard drive (which dosn't really do anything since my sd card is set as the 1st drive so it just reboots itself) Do you think its possible to make it an option to boot from the second drive? This way I could keep the sd card in at all times and have a nice dual booted system. I did think about upgrading the hard drive but its about 70-120$ and I already dropped $130 on the netbook. I'll mess around with the files later on tonight, just figured I'd pop in and see what you guys thought. EDIT Ok, I figured out I have to modify syslinux.cfg to modify the boot menu ex: label ubnentry8 menu label Boot the First Hard Disk kernel /ubnkern append initrd=/ubninit I need to figure out what I have to do to make that boot the 2nd hdd
  7. Hmm... Sounds like it could run a web server. I wonder.....
  8. I could'nt get it done in windows, I booted into ubuntu and got it done there
  9. The open zipit project is about exploration, so yeah its $50 but that not bad for a little hackory! :) I'm not sure right off hand though I'm sure you could revert much the same way if you can get a copy of the original kernal then just use that during installation. In fact I know theres a serial mod that'll allow you to reinstall, I don't know if that'll work for installing the original kernal tough. Maybe keep it, You know you can play mpeg1/2 video on it, it'll do mp3s. Video streaming over network, etc. It's a nice little device and the more people hack around with it the nicer it'll be. Checkout my wiki mirror, it has some original articals from myself in it http://wiki.zipitzone.com I don't know if I'm keeping the site up though as I don't have much free time theses days and the sites not really used much but maybe it'll be of use to you.
  10. I use vnc one click based on ultra vnc. It's free and works great http://www.uvnc.com/addons/singleclick.html If you don't have a static ip just use dyndns.org (also free) EDIT I almost forgot. With this your client wont need to open a port (although you will have to)
  11. The thing that I don't get is when you mentioned that your bios settings were changed. As far as i know that cannot be done without physical access to the machine. I'd say you have a backdoor installed on your machine, though if you've done fresh builds/installs, etc. You "should" be fine. Do you have a flash drive or sd card that you've been using on your machines or have multiple machines on your network. If it is a virus/backdoor of some sort it could transfer across a network or removable media, so if you fix one and the other is infected the second the fixed one is connected to your network it could be compromised.
  12. Your fine. You see the zipit dosn't have enough ram for our linux userland images. So you must provide one on a mini sd card. I'm running debian on mine atm. once you get it if you need commands check out http://wiki.zipitzone.com http://hunterdavis.com is a good site on zipit's as well
  13. Bought mine on amazon. Anyway encode a video in mpeg1 (streaming preferably) run from the terminal mplayer -vo fbdev -vf rotate=2 -bandwidth 1000000 VIDEONAMEHERE.mpg The above line will play the video for you. you must be in the folder the video is in when doing so. Also if you'd like to play mp3s mplayer nameofsong.mp3 do that in the directory of the song. BTW, internal speaker sucks, use command alsamixer to turn it off and hit the smile button to save and exit. I have my own site w.i.p.... I have a wiki for it as well http://zipitzone.com http://wiki.zipitzone.com
  14. I recently finished my ps2 mod. It includes an internal memory card, wireless controller, and a fmcb card (a memory card with an exploit on it for homebrew) I later intend to put a 320gb hdd in it. Pics: http://s794.photobucket.com/albums/yy230/h.../PS2%20Project/ Video: let me know what you think _________________________________________________________________ Anyway I'd like to work on a portable ps2. I have a slim line ps2 and was thinking to use a portable dvd player with its battery and a regulator running the supply in parallel. I'm hoping to install two internal wireless controllers and at least one memory card. My only issue is space and a case. I am horrible with case mods, I can drill holes, that's it. and the ps2 slim has no space for modding. I'd say its a 90% chance I won't use the ps2 case at all. But with that in mind. I'm not sure what I'd put it in. I'm really no good at case mods and don't yet own a dremel. Any ideas are welcomed. I'd really like to complete this and I know the hardware/electronics just need some help with the case itself. EDIT My idea for the portable ps2 is to have two wireless controllers installed internally making it easy for on the go play. I would like to use a backlit screen and it'd be nice to be able to run an internal memory card. (i know how its just a space issue). I need to figure out a case that will look alright and be functional. I'll have it so that it'll sit upright on a table top. I'll need access to the disc drive as I don't intend on doing a hdd mod. ***One major issue will be finding a supply that will give me 5.3Amps any ideas on what to use please let me know, I do NOT want to plug it in.
  15. Just figured I'd post it happened again. I reformatted my pc 5 times (installation issues don't ask) I dual booted xp/ubuntu, within xp i have a video downloading, I'm impatient and decide to see how much of the video I can watch with vlc with only 30% completed. And what do you know, I see part of an episode of futurama on there! for about 5 sec then it closes. The video was on the previous installation in a different directory with a different name then the file being downloaded. Again once download is complete it stops doing that --> filemon is nolonger avail for download Just figured I'd say it still happens... It's just really odd. I mean its show files that shouldn't exists in different directories with different names.
  16. I decided to throw together a website for all my projects, hobbies, and ideas.. Its not really completed or well designed. It really was just thrown together. But I do intend to upgrade/update it a bit. For now its just a place to throw/display my ideas and projects. Its not well documented but if anyones interested in something I've done (not everything is on the site.... just threw some stuff up) Anyway comments, etc.. http://haroldshobbies.com btw, I'm not posting the site to see what I can do better, just sharing my ideas and projects.
  17. Yes I did already buy it, I did notice that with the fan. I like it so far but then again its been sitting in the box empty for about 2-3 months now sine I ran into cash problems
  18. I'm planning on getting a 700w at this point vs a 1000w going with integrated graphics for now. Was going to go all out on this but I wrecked my car so you can guess where my build money went. I'll end up starting with 2gb ram and a 500gb hdd and I'll have to upgrade as I go
  19. Thanks man, I'm book marking it looks like I'll only need the 500W model even if I upgrade. unless I get a really high end video card it'll be fine :D
  20. I normally build low end pc's for work or for friends. I just grab a case that comes with a cheap supply and it works. I'm doing my first high-end rig. and I don't want to over spend with the power supply but I really dont want to under shoot it. I plan to upgrade the ram/hdd/and add another dvd burner in the future. 21. Thanks simpledns looks great... Dunno how I would get a web based interface though to add domain entries, see I want anyone to be able to add a domain to the dns from their own machines
  22. When I talk about domains I'm speaking of tld's ex: hak5.org is a domain. I know that domains on a network are different. I'm working to create domains such as hak5.org within a lan. Which I did figure out, just need a web based interface so anyone can make one on the lan
  23. Sent to me by JoannyDavis DONT CLICK THE LINK IT IS IN FACT A VIRUS
  24. Bind sounds good thanks :) The big issue now is trying to figure out how to get a web based remote interface for it. So users and assign a domain/hostname to their pc if they choose to run a server
  25. I just need every pc on the network to each of the domains thoughout the network As far as the dns I can't seem to find a freeware one
