2. agreed, this is completly unacceptable! Yeah so fuck his retirement! He needs to go back to work to fix Vista's best guess as copy/move time. Another reason why Windows Vista should have been put into the "pointless OSs" bin. I would rather have a copy of Neptune than the crap Microsoft calls it's "most secure operating system". </rant> If you're hardware is supported (and can run it) Vista blows XP out of the water. So don't be a hater Gaming wise it doesn't ;)
3. Unix Cron has email notification. I was wonder which of these configuration people would prefer. <CronTab> <!-- Ping 'google.com' every 5 minutes of every day --> <CronJob> <Schedule> <Minute>*/5</Minute> <Hour>*</Hour> <DayOfMonth>*</DayOfMonth> <Month>*</Month> <DayOfWeek>*</DayOfWeek> </Schedule> <Task arguments="google.com">ping</Task> <EmailSettings> <SmtpHostname>smtp.gmail.com</SmtpHostname> <SmtpPort>587</SmtpPort> <SmtpUsername>funkygmailaccount@gmail.com</SmtpUsername> <SmtpPassword>lamepassword</SmtpPassword> <UseSsl>true</UseSsl> </EmailSettings> </CronJob> </CronTab> One email settings per Cron job, or <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <CronConfig> <EmailSettings> <SmtpHostname>smtp.gmail.com</SmtpHostname> <SmtpPort>587</SmtpPort> <SmtpUsername>funkygmailaccount@gmail.com</SmtpUsername> <SmtpPassword>lamepassword</SmtpPassword> <UseSsl>true</UseSsl> </EmailSettings> </CronConfig> A separate single configuration.
4. Speak for yourself, I was born a hacker. 8)
5. Unless your Jesus. That is a character in a book.
6. Surf maps aren't even "surfing", it's more like Skiing.
7. Dust2 and Assault.. the most overplayed CS maps ever. CS:S the game everyone associated with the typical online "gamerfag". There are better FPS games out there, for example I prefer Call of Duty 4, Battlefield 2.
8. Who do you think Hak.5 (the show) is aimed at? I think it is intended to be aimed at the technology enthusiast but due to recent content (see USB hacks) the viewer based has slid to the younger, not so much enthusiastic side. This as my opinion is a problem. Who do you think it should be aimed at? I think it should be aimed at the technology enthusiasts and no so much the younger generation, as outlined above. Do you think the show hits the viewers you think it's aiming for? Yes, and no. It is hitting the enthusiasts as they're hoping for advanced content, and the entertained but, it is also hits the younger, "skiddy" generation of viewers. What might make it appeal more to the audience you think it should be aimed at? More advance content. We advanced users have to skip the "easy" content in the show, because it's not entertaining, so why can't the "n00bs" skip the advance content. If they're doing the current content to keep viewers high just because of advertising, and funding, why not remove the advertising, to a lower budget show, less "network tv"-ish, and do advanced content only, because there would be no need for adverting funding. Or even do a low-budget, advanced spin-off of the show. Where would you like to see the show going? More advanced content. Less script-kiddy-boring content. What do you think of the community as a whole? It's ok. This may sound elitist, but it's the general opinion of all the old school Hak.5 IRC'ers. The community seems a bit more commericial now, where as when it was not as big, and more underground, with a select few people who knew their technology. Now everyone is able to join, which brings a few bad-seeds and a few good-seeds, but it isn't an interesting place to hang out anymore. The forums have become a haven for "how do I hack this?", so might as well remove the forums all together, as there isn't much need for them, other technology forums are available. What do you think might improve it? The IRC should be more underground, with it being less advertised. I don't think every Tom, Dick, and Harry should be there, leave them on the forums. IRC should be for the hardcore people, who like discussing their technology. As for the forums, I have said above, just get rid of them. Do you think it links in with the show it sprang from well? Do you think it should do? The only links the community have with the show are people asking questions regarding the show. I believe the IRC community should be separate from the forum community with the IRC being for the more advanced minded viewers. Depending on the content of the show infers how much it should be linked with the community (see USB hacks). Do you think the crew/cast of the show should get more or less involved? Is the balance fine as it is? Yes, and no. It was better when IRC was small, and Wess and Darren we around regularly, but now you get people that are like "zomg wess darrenz, hi hi hihihihihih1!!1!!1one", which is retarded, and I don't really want to encounter these people on IRC, they should stick to the forums. Conclusion I think the less-advanced community should be separate from the more advanced community, and the whole USB hacks community should just be dropped as it attracts the wrong crowd. The serious lack of advance content is making me want to watch the show less and less, and if there wasn't a community I would probably stop watching the show all together. My 2 pence.
9. ] Good job assuming a telnet server is running.
10. An alpha testing version is out: http://tombell.org.uk/~tomb/binaries/cron/CronService.msi Install this, it requires the .NET 3.5 Framework, and then download and copy this file: http://tombell.org.uk/~tomb/binaries/cron/Cron.exe Over the top of Program FilesTom BellCronCron.exe as it is an update and I haven't made the new installer. The configuration file is CronTab.xml, and you can start the service like any other windows service.
11. I have been working on a Cron implementation for Windows using C# and the .NET 3.5 framework. It will offer similar functionality to the Unix Cron daemon, but for Windows. A unique part of my implementation of Cron is the XML configuration file which is XML rather than plaintext. Below is an example CronTab.xml. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <CronTab> <!-- Run SomeExecutable.exe every quarter past the hour --> <CronJob> <Schedule> <Minute>15</Minute> <Hour>*</Hour> <DayOfMonth>*</DayOfMonth> <Month>*</Month> <DayOfWeek>*</DayOfWeek> </Schedule> <Task arguments="--some-argument">C:Program FilesSomeAppSomeExecutable.exe</Task> </CronJob> <!-- Run SomeBatchFile.bat every 5 minutes on Sunday --> <CronJob> <Schedule> <Minute>*/5</Minute> <Hour>*</Hour> <DayOfMonth>*</DayOfMonth> <Month>*</Month> <DayOfWeek>7</DayOfWeek> </Schedule> <Task arguments="">C:SomeBatchFile.bat</Task> </CronJob> </CronTab> I use LINQ to XML to parse this, and further string parsing for the schedule elements. The first release will have some limitations which will be outlined when it is released, but should be sorted out before the second release. Below is a screenshot of the class diagram for the Cron service. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2354/2378370591_7f1591947e.jpg[/img] The first beta of my Cron service should be available before the end of the week. I am also going to be adding such functionality as recoverability and email notification in the release after the beta, after any bugs that have been found are fixed. If you have any other sensible suggestions for features, please contact me.
12. Yes, they purchased Westwood, and RA3 is due out this year.
13. EA shouldn't be on that list, there games are populare, that doesn't make them any good. In your opinion.
14. I've said the "rtfm" shit is getting old, and people should help, but no one listened. Oh well.
15. Block internet access to, it can be used to view material that _could_ be used for vandalism. Oh hell, block the use of computers as well.
16. Enjoy sharing a cell with Achmed the Dead Terrorist.
17. This was a topical reply to the user "Pizza" - hence the title. There is no GUI components, make them yourself - I'm not spoon feeding anyone. Understand what is being said in colloquial terms before you go and make a smart-ass comment. Replies usually go at the end of the thread they start in. You're not spoon feeding me, as many people probably can vouch for me, I can probably code circles around you. Basically all you did was create a thread that executes NMap, nothing special. Object oriented has nothing do with the program running sequentially. Object oriented code runs sequentially. You can use threads in prodecural languages, so OOP has nothing to do with it. #include <windows.h> void DoNmap(void* pData) { system("nmap ........."); } int main(int argc, char** argv) { _beginthread(DoNmap, 0, NULL); return 0; } Very simple C example of the same app in a procedural manner.
18. The PHP constructor is called __construct(). Sparda has the right idea you can pass parameters to the constructor when you create the object.
19. Because all these hobby games developers are going to develop games of the same standard that EA, Activision, Microsoft, etc produce. :-)
20. You know what's easier than blurring a picture? Cutting out only the part you wish to display.
21. At the end of the day, if you learn a C-style language, you can adapt to pretty much any other programming language as the logic is quite the same.
