  1. wow moonlit, a little much?

but my contribution to it would be that if you are going to break it down that much can't you find a cheaper usb controlled device to hack to do that? If not then I say tear off everything, replace the movement motors with servos and put a nerf gun on there with a laser. I would even go so far as to say the vulcan ebf-25 modified with a larger clip (the ammo belts are easily modifiable, if you want to know how just ask), a laser (could be from another nerf gun as the parts are interchangable) and a webcam......havoc will ensue.

hey, just a thought, but why not add the Logitech QuickCam Orbit I saw sitting on the shelf to the hakhouse setup, it can track people as they walk by, can't it?

oh, and if you let the internet choose your music be prepared for rick rolls, chocolate rain, and fresh prince

also cover your usb ports if the computer is in the public

  2. My only nitpick is that it's XBMC not XMBC, and while Matt corrected himself in the bloopers, the intro segment still said it wrong and your summary on the site mixed it up too. just a heads up

edit: oh yeah, synergy is out via steam as well as 4 other mods so it should automatically update the version like it does for the tf2 updates when a new one comes out. could we also do synergy as a hak5 lan party event? that would rock

  3. I'm in if it's for the whole year, you're really prompting me to do things I've been putting off and to prove things I have done, also I am a bit confused on the legality of some of these things.  I got that a cell phone jammer is legal to own, but 'Infiltrate a Condemned Building' is trespassing isn't it, 'Use your beige box (from set #1) to listen in on a phone call' would probably be trespassing too, or maybe something else, depending on what you do, and 'Get Free Pizza (the broken)' is fraud isn't it?

it seems contradictory, but if someone can correct me on these things I would be glad, I always wanted to explore a building like that.

  4. I frequently open up my consoles to clean them, etc... (not done any physical mods yet) and in addition to one both of my dreamcasts boasting the date of manufacture as 1999 (one June and one November) the boards inside the june one all say a manufacture date of 1998.  I verified this with wikipedia that the Dc was launched on November 27, 1998 in japan and on September 9, 1999 in the US.  it was also discontinued in 2001 as you said, but developers are still making games for it (I know the last one was in march, but I'm not sure if any are still in development).

here is the chunk of wikipedia that I am referencing.

"Though Dreamcast was officially discontinued in early 2001, commercial games were still developed and released afterwards, particularly in Japan. Unreleased games like Propeller Arena and Half-Life continued to become available to the public through warez groups and independent hackers.

On February 24, 2004, Sega released their final Dreamcast game, Puyo Pop Fever. A small number of third-party games were still being released, such as Chaos Field released in December 2004, Trizeal released in April 2005, Radilgy released in February 2006, Under Defeat released in March 2006, and most recently Radium, Last Hope released January 2007, Trigger Heart Exelica released February 2007, and Karous released March 2007."

    from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dreamcast

and "On February 16, 2006, Sega once again began selling Dreamcast consoles through its online store, Sega Direct of Japan. The package deal included a refurbished Dreamcast....."

from the same page a little farther down

also the Dc can be overclocked to 240mhz (stable) as seen here:

and as for the bba, I know, the price is ridiculous, but someone ran one through the built in (add on comes with the Dc) 56k modem and into another computer that had broadband access here:

  6. I can't believe you guys have not mentioned Sega's last console Ever, or at least as far as I can remember.  You guys are always talking about how "It's not a hack until it can run doom" well earlier today I bothered to get nxdoom running and I love it.  a basic tutorial can be found at hxxp: www. dreamcast-scene. com/index. php/Main/Doom that site also has other Dreamcast stuff too such as emulators etc.  the dreamcast is also windows ce compatible and can be overclocked so it is awesome as a development platform (as well as being able to play cdrs and homebrew software without mods).  there is a serial coder's cable too so you don't have to burn cdrs to test your code and a broadband adapter that supports 10/100 networking so it can be used as a server with an ide mod and dreamcast linux.  i don't have links to all this stuff anymore, but I'm sure with a little Google action you could find any of the stuff I listed.

Edit: it's also not that old, just last gen (Ps2, Gamecube, Xbox, and Dreamcast)
