Cheers, I have few questions about my laptop and advice about my school laptop. School issued me a new Mac Pro (this year) and I have and other colleagues have notice the significant lag for certain programs that are loading up and software that are more frequently crashing. Also, I tried to install C# Express and nFridga (for Unreal) so I can learn Unreal scripting. But when I try to install nFidge it gives me this error. “You Must have at least Window XP Service Pack Pack 3 installed. Installer will now Exist” Image attached... I am running window 7 on this machine. Confused??? I have successful installed both on my workstation at home with no problems. With Window 7. Also, have I tried to patch an Video Game and it said I needed Permission on this Laptop. IT said that I should have all Permission allowed on my laptop to install on my Laptop from school. I believe they set Permissions on their machine at my school. Not physical on my machine. Is that why some software running slower. Also, throughout my school Software (and OS loading) is running slower. Also, this year I and other colleagues needs permission to go to Task Manger. In addition, Power point, Words (UDK, Maya, 3Dmax, Unity, Motionbuilder, Mudbox and others no problem) and all Adobe are crashing more frequently and taking 30 seconds to load up. Anyone have idea why this happening? Also, When I load Apple OS on this machine and other machines it taking significant long time for it to load up or start. There are several more problems So my question is why is this happening? Are they running tracking software on my machine and others? If they are how do I see that or is there way I see what they using (for most important if tracking) or see if what they doing is causing all these problems. I want my PC to start automatically at certain time and shot down at certain time and start my animation/video and shot down my animation. Without any human interaction. For some strange reason all my browser wont let me add .com after google. Everytime I add .com at end of google it adds .se or se. Swedish and spainsh. I have tried it in firefox, explore, opera and others. Little confused. Is it a virus or setting on computer. Thanks for the help.

Thanks Vako, This what my IT wrote. Need some really help. I am actually using Group Policy fairly extensively already for other things, and have used Group Policy based installations before. There are many limitations with that method, but the biggest are that it requires an MSI installer that most programs do not have, and the system is unusable during the installation. You also have no way of pushing the application at a specific time, so if I deployed a package using Group Policy all the systems would update at different time (that's by design). As far as the MSI limitation, there are ways to make an MSI for programs that do not have them, but it's a fairly arduous process that we do not have time for right now. We will likely look at this in the future, but I don't want to introduce something radically new at this point in the process. I do appreciate the ideas, and I would definitely be interested in the others you've dealt with though just to see if there are some that I haven't used.

Cheers, I was wondering if it is possible for IT to setup a list of software that can be installed when users need them on their machines. I had this at few gaming companies where I work before. I was wondering how they did that. Like free ones and ones they owned.

Cheers Not to sound like a parent. Education is one of best investment someone can do. Maybe in future you want to do art or produce movies. It is a lot harder to switch carriers without a degree. I am professor in Game Design and I have work in the Game Industry for long time. Not as programmer but as an artist. I don’t want sound like a jerk. I suggest taking another class that deals with computers. Not as programming. Maybe taking an art class that deals programming as an art genre. One most important skill to have is communication and learn how to work in a collaborated projects. If your university has an good art program they will focus on this. Also, from an art side. New Media art form is getting a big look at in art world. I love it. You can do anything you want. Then you will be your own boss. Also, then we get away from commercial games and you can do anything you want in your games. Maybe you want to something like GFP Bunny (Edurado Kac) or hacking as art like Corey Archangel (his Mario he showed it in Whitney Biennial). I can list 100’s artists or programmers who do programming as art or vice versus. Take look at this book. “New Philosophy For New Media by Mark B.N. Hansen. Yes, Philosophy but it is really kewl shit.

ThX for reply all:) I called Autodesk and they were aware about it. But didn't give much advice. I also mentioned it to IT. Take another week for them to look at:) Busy this time of year... The flex folder was lock and they were still able to add new aw.dat file to it. But I cant add any other files to it. Like psd, ma, txt, or any common file name to it. but .dat was able to be added. I have ask other professor at other university to try it and they were successful as well. ThX for the help:)

I found flaw for my students to get Maya Ultimate (we have Maya complete with some unknown key serve i don't know #) at my school. Also, I found the same way threw other edu. Only way they can install software is threw ADIM. But I myself found way around that. With out admin login. Probably the same way the students are doing it. Sorry for lack info. Is there way to lock license or folders (which they were but found another flaw). I'm jut a professor in arts. Thanks for any help. Should I contact Autodesk.

I have been looking for online stock games that reflect the real stock market. Of course, fake or virtual money:) I have tried vse.marketwatch.com And some others. But I find some problems with these because it doesn’t allow me to trade all the time. Only certain times. Some of them I get a broken link when trade and some other problems. I don’t mind 15 minutes delay which some do. If there are any online stock games which anyone recommends I would appreciate it? In addition: I have also tried hsx.com (Hollywood Stock Exchange) and love it. Question about format video format. I making a machina and I recorded Bioshock using Fraps and it uses .avi format only. When I watch it(avi) on my PC its fine. However, when I watch it on other PC's it only gives me sound and no video. I have tried to view it in different software from aftereffects, VLC, window, Preiemere, real player and other video viewing format and no luck. However, when I convert it to QuickTime its fine. My question is why isn’t my avi format works on other PC computers?

Is reverse engineering illegal if you own that software? What are some other links about kegen? Like History of them and sample of code or other information about them. I have been reading about a few higher game engines that does that. Another question. If you have illegal software such as Adobe Photoshop and produce art work and sell it or have company that has illegal software. Can a software company see you have illegal software? Besides bringing you into court. How do they do that? We all know software companies are aware about this and how are they fighting against it. If i get a upgrade or down grade or install Virutal PC on my g4 (apple notebook) I cant see hidden accounts. I Don't have the intel chip on it. Question, I have good relationship with my schools IT. They told me they have a hidden Log in account on my laptop like IT, STAFF, ADMIN on my laptop that was issued to me at my work. Is it possible to have hidden admin account and if so how would I find out hidden account. I have G4 notebook. I am so curious to find out. They have made me bet that I could not find the hidden log in name. In good honor they will buy me a happy meal if I find hidden login. MMM free meal… Is it possible to hide a log in name on computer. How would find this or what research should I look into to find a hidden log name on a computer. I have crack the ADIM, IT, STAFF password on works network by using LC5 (PC based) and I have shared it to them and they haven’t solved how stop me. How would I tell them how stop this crack. In addition, how do you stop using Cain & Able on a computer network? I can easily get passwords at my company. From directorly connected and using wifi.
