    Melty Blood

ive never played the actual melty blood game but i have played a few of the characters in my mugen engine. if you dont know what mugen is head to http://www.mugen-infantry.net/ mugen is a fighting game engine leaked by elecbyte a long time ago. the company tanked and now there is a vibrant community of players and developers for it. with how easy it is to create and install characters, stages, and screenpacks. virtually every 2d fighting character is available in this. ill have to check out melty blood
  3. he's right. i was a windows user all my life until i put ubuntu studio on my laptop. dual boot of course. and after a while everything became second nature. as an example if i hear about a cool piece of software in windows i used to google it to find a download. download the installation files. install it. delete the installation files. and use the program. after playing in linux ive gotten used to just opening up the consol and sudo apt-get install [name] and bam ive got it. (command may be wrong. for reasons beyond my control ive had to use windows again for a while and i may have forgotten the exact commands) after a while youll find ubuntu to be a smoother more user friendly interface while still allowing access to more advanced editing possibilities than windows allowed without some retail tool. not to mention youll find that ubuntu will cost less. a lot of the software is free. and theres almost always an open source alternative to any retail program. and with wine (windows emulation) you can run almost anything
  4. i remember that there are a lot of trance fans here. while i love trance i have only heard a few songs and they get old. im starting up a new project(details are secret for now) and i always find it so much easier to work if i block out the world with music and trance music is perfect because it has no lyrics(well at least the stuff i listen to doesnt) so what trance songs do you guys suggest i listen to? youtube links appreciated since im building the playlist there(sick of dealing with thousands of files on my computer) but they arent required. anything without lyrics is pretty much what im looking for. lyrics are fine when im working on a story or something but when im reading/writing code its distracting to sing along lol. heres the playlist as it stands right now. just to give you an idea of what im already listening to. http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=E3BFBC6877A6C5D7
  5. i recently added 2000 points to my 100 wii points. with those points i purchased 3 games and spent all 2100 points. heres my reviews post play. Sandy Beach: this game is essentially a 3d modeling program heavily simplified. you build castles(or w/e you can make with the toold) out of sand. it has 3 modes. free play (new castle) which lets you build your own castle without restrictions. you can place base blocks which are just square blocks of sand. then you can use a shovel to shape those into intricate pieces of a palace. free play (blue prints) in which you build a castle while following a model given. if you build the entire castle your rewarded and given the next blueprint. rewards vary from items for your chest to new buckets that can lay more base blocks per fill. and finally the main attraction. crab battle. you start with a small tower. your given 2 minutes to build a fortress around it. placing walls and cannons. after that 2 minutes a wave of sand crabs assaults your creation attempting to reach the tower. defend it by tapping the crabs and letting cannons kill them. if they reach the tower and drain all its health you lose. if you survive the wave you can search the sand for a free cannon with a metal detector. and your given 2 minutes to make repairs and expand before the next wave. there are 10 waves of crabs each getting more difficult. your awarded nothing for winning all 10. its just for fun. 2/5 for being fun, creative, and relaxing. but being very limited and with little reward. and occasionally you do build something that actually slows down the wii momentarily(i said it was a 3d modeling program after all) bonsai barber: in this game your a barber in a town full of plants people. your job? cut their brush. you can use scissors for precise cutting or you can use clippers to remove leaves and trim twigs. a comb to comb branches, a paintbrush to dye their "hair", and a gong to ring when finished. theres no time limit. only designs that get more and more difficult. but theres a catch. your customers dont come all at once. youll get 5 or so your first day. then they come at random the following days and i mean literal 24 hour periods in reality. you can just mess with the wii internal clock for extended play. or you can use the practicing plant you get for completing your first day. do as you wish. 3/5 for being different and entertaining with interesting characters. but it lacks the constant playability that a lot of hardcore gamers love. and i saved best for last Bit.Trip Beat: this game is a retro rhythm based game. i cant explain it easily as its out of the norm. so heres a video you control the paddle by rotating the wii remote. hold it as a classic controller style and rotate it forward and back. ite reminiscent of the old paddle controller for atari 2600 which is appropriate. its fun and addictive as hell with a great soundtrack. at the end of each level theres a boss. i wont spoil the lvl 2 and 3 bosses because they will bring back memories for a lot of us. but the level 1 boss ill ruin for you. its a very large block consisting of 2 types of bits(square pixels). juggle (come back after being hit) and regular bits. this large block fires a barrage of bits at you until it has nothing left and you win. its an interesting game that starts out easy but gets insanely hard(if you find that hard to believe then look up a video for the level growth). its addicting though and practice really does make perfect since this game is a rhythm based game. the levels never change and are always constant. so if you try hard enough enough times youll get through. for those that have or buy bit.trip beat. heres my top scores. lemme know if you beat them. and ill let you know how they have gone up lol. transition: 0002208631 descent: 0002411413 growth: 0000720453 5/5. this game is definately worth the 600 wii points and more. i cant wait for a sequel.

    Quake Live

i made a topic about this a while back. by the time they invited me into the closed beta i didnt want to play anymore
  7. im wondering what possibilities(if any) in the form of homebrew this could open to mod-less wii users. i dont have twilight princes(although i admire the series, im not a big fan of zelda) and im not willing to hardmod my system.
  8. well anyone who has updated their wii in the last like 36 hours knows that they added a new feature that solves the wii's disk space issues. you can now play wii channels straight from the sd card. ie if you run out of space(or if you havent) you can just move the channel to your sd card and play directly from it. im wondering if anyone has attempted to take advantage of this in some way or if anyone plans to. or it may just be a lost cause. idk. thoughts? opinions? links? lol
  9. lol being the "box of junk" the laptop is an ancient junker with a busted screen that may not function at all lol.
  10. i have no problem with it. as long as it keeps going i dont care to send to anyone who wants. but i added a laptop as well as a bunch of other stuff so it may be a bit heavy to ship international. ill let you know. going job hunting again tomorrow and if i can get a job then ill ship it over to you
  11. good evening lol. sorry for double post but its with good reason. i received the box today. some interesting stuff in here. i decided it would be a good idea to add 2 things to the box. a notebook(hardcover with a yinyang on the cover) and a pen. both of which you can use to show what you took and what you gave. i gotta say some of the stuff in there made me lol. it may be a while before i can send it to the next person but ill send as soon as i can. lost my job so my money needs to be prioritized better until i can find another. but it will be worth the wait for whoever gets it next. hey hak5 crew. want to get the box next? i cant decide who to send to because the only people who showed interest either havent been on the forums in forever or have already had the box.
  12. 2 things 1: this topic has been dead forever. it was dead an hour after it was created 2: as far as the link to the blog goes my apologies for not doing things in the desired way ps i didnt and still do not have the finances to afford domains and hosting.
  13. hey gc. not complainin but i still havent received it. if youve shipped it out contact me and ill make sure the address is right.
  14. contrary to your(and many others) belief, there ARE a lot of people who depend on windows for their job. be it because their workplace doesnt allow them to install their own OS, they work at microsoft, or maybe they just have to use a program that either isnt compatible or you have to jump through too many hoops to get it working under linux example. i need windows for gaming, photoshop, google sketchup, and other windows based programs. now i could probably get all of that working under linux but very little of it would run as smoothly. i got google sketchup working but i sacrificed some of the looks of my linux system and since i didnt need to do that(having a computer that is less powerful but still capable of using the program smoothly) i decided to uninstall it from linux and throw it on my old xp laptop. i personally prefer linux over windows for anything i can but i have nothing against windows. i love linux because in 9 out of 10 situations i can find a free alternative on linux to any pay windows application.
  15. i cant remember exactly what it was but theres a registry edit you can do to map an actual bsod to a ctrl+shift+key combination lol
  16. due to no article submissions im delaying it a week for those who wanted to write one.
  17. i got 7 to run fine at the cost of some of the more aesthetically pleasing settings on my comp lol. but worth it lol
  18. ill hav to do that. ive used the program before and it fits my needs perfectly
  19. i cant find anything but seven.
  20. so far ive gotten final fantasy 7 crisis core, castlevania symphony of the night(playstation network for psp), and chrono trigger DS. heres what i think of each. Crisis Core: this review is going to be very biased because final fantasy 7 has been my favorite game of all time since i first played it as a kid. nothing has ever come close to it and nothing ever will. that being said crisis core is a pretty good game. the story is what i wanted out of it more than anything and its not bad so far. the graphics are beautiful for a psp game(especially the cutscenes but its square. they are well known for their beautiful graphics). the gameplay is where i think it lacks. the gameplay id give a 6/10 because its a little stiff. the game is basically running and fighting. that doesnt bother me since i wanted it for the storyline anyway but if you just want a fun game then this might not be for your. however the gameplay isnt bad at all. just new and stiff. heres a breakdown of the battle controls which is all you really need to know. L and R cycle through your options(similar to casting spells in kingdom hearts games) and pressing X uses them. all the attacks are slow which is why its so stiff to me. its not like kingdom hearts. pressing triangle will guard which lowers damage. pressing square does a dodge roll. the limit break is literally a random thing. there is a constant slot machine going in the top left that you have nothing to do with. it has 3 pictures and a number by each. if the left and right picture are the same then it goes into what is called limit verge. where the gameplay is halted(decently done though. its not completely abrupt and doesnt screw with the flow) and you wait as the middle wheel finishes spinning. if the middle picture matches the others then you get to do a limit break. which limit break depends on which picture it is. the power of that limit break depends on the number beside the center picture now here comes the weird and irritating part. there is no xp system for leveling. you have leveling. but its not xp based which is new to me and im not that fond of it myself. the system is random and its based on the slot machine mentioned before. if you go into limit verge and the numbers are 777 then you level up zack. if there are 2 of any other number then it levels up the materia in the corresponding slot. the upside to this is that theoretically if your lucky you could jump 10 levels in a fight. the downside is ive played 6 hours(total gameplay) and im only lvl 13 and since i believe you start at level 7 thats not very far. although ive mastered 2 materia so far which materia hits master at lvl 5. the materia system is odd too. instead of the ff7 system where you equip it based on your weapons and armor you are given 4 slots(later becomes 6) to fill with materia. thats it. you are given 2 accessory slots as well. you do not change weapons at all. leveling up materia increases its power and can possibly give it a stat boost as well(mag+1 str+1 ect ect). this is very different because unlike ff7 your materia doesnt transform. ie it doesnt grow from fire to fira. it just increases in power to a certain point and stops. but i believe this is because of the introduction of materia fusion system. you pick 2 materia and fuse them to make a new one. luckily you can see what materia would be produced before you actually go through with the fusion which will save you rare materia hunters a lot of money and grief. im not completely certain how the system works because ive only fused a dozen or so materia(not much if you really think about it) but from what i can tell fusing 2 identical materia produces the same materia with higher power. while fusing 2 different materia can create new materia. i combined 2 materia(not sure what though. cant remember) and made dark thunder. dark thunder is identical to thunder but it causes adverse status effects on the enemy. overall id give the game a 9/10. but like i said. very biased. now as for chrono trigger. its improved over the original release since you have a touch screen to navigate menus. but its the same game you know and love with some added areas and side quests that were left out of the original due to cart memory restrictions. 9/10 castlevania sotn: alslo biased. one of my favorite games and an instant classic. definitely the best castlevania out there. for those of you who dont know. castlevania symphony of the night is a ps1 game from back in the day. a 2d side scroller that was beautifully done. it was the second game(i believe) in all the castlevania games up to that point to use a non belmont character. it was also the first to include a weapon system other than the "grab the upgrade" system. this game is great and not much damage was dealt during the port to the psp(dont have a ps3 to try on but for $10 you get psp and ps3 use for it). psp is only missing 2 buttons and they are now mapped to the analogue stick(with left being L1, right is R2, and up is L1+R2) other than that its the same classic game. just hit the home button for system settings for it(ie full screen, normal screen, control scheme, memory card management, ect, ect) 9/10 well thats all ive got for now. if i get any more games then ill post my opinions of them as well
  21. yeah. 7.0 is the only one ive found and it has a bronze compatability. i can get it installed just fine but it fails to run every time. 5.0 is platinum but i cant find a download anywhere.
  22. google sketchup is a design program made by google that has a very simple and quick interface. its useful and powerful. does anyone know of a good linux program similar to it? the simplistic interface is important as i wont be using the program so much for such important things that i need a hundred different tools and complicated scripts. just something i can build a quick design in.
  23. my gf isnt into tech either but idc lol :) for me idk what im getting. my gf has a few things she is keeping secret but one of the gifts is clearly a dvd or game of some sort. more than likely a game for the wii. ill also be getting any number of games from various people. but i think a great gift for a gamer(close enough to tech lol) is a playstation network card if they have psp. im kinda hoping for that just so i can get my hands on castlevania symphony of the night :) that game is classic and beats the hell out of all the new and old castlevania games
  24. i wouldnt say that. most of the time when i see emails anywhere on the web they are yahoo and it is considerably easier to setup a gmail account so it cant be quick setup. and i personally use yahoo for my private email and spam email. i only use gmail for site related stuff.
