To be honest, I'm not sure. I'd say a few years, 6 or 7? It's a 20gb Seagate. I was thinking it could be the prob as well. I've got a few other known good drives I can try. Since I have to reinstall Windows, I'll do that as well.
  2. I would think you could set them up on your LAN as normal, and with a smart phone you could view the vids as normal in any other browser. Not sure about the lower end phones though. I know I can't stream video on my V3M Razr.

Well, a slight update. I'm guessing it is Windows related after all. For some reason now it is getting just as choppy in everything it does, including sounds and browsing. It's like the whole system has a lag. The laptop did this once before and a fresh install fixed it. What concerns me is that this thing has a fresh install on it, and it really doesn't get used much. There is nothing else on it so why would Windows start eating itself up? This was a complete format and re-install, not just a refresh. Ah well. I wanted to put Kubuntu on it anyhow.
  4. Welcome! Hooks us up with some links to the comics and whatnot f you have them posted, sounds sweet! As for the hacking another forum, I wouldn't let that crap take up your time. Revenge is boring. Now, modding a toaster, thats entertainment!!! :Goes back to attempting Linux on the George Foreman Grill:

We're seeing $60/month for just extended basic cable in our area, and it isn't even that good. I'm very excited about this. I just can't justify the extra cash for cable when I don't watch TV that much. I will say I tried TVU player to dismal results. It was slow, had poor channel selection, and got choppy even on a 10MB/1.5MB connection. BTW, if anyone has an extra invite, can you hook me up? Otherwise I'll wait anxiously until it releases.
  6. I actually liked Hackling personally. However, whoever said Hak-Fu Army , that is awesome! Technolusters works too.

I checked everything I had turned off. It's the same as the laptop. Indexing Service Error Reporting Print Spooler Microsoft Messenger Themes Fast User switching Remote Access I didn't see related to the video or hardware acceleration. Could there be something wrong with the on board video hardware?
  8. Budget isn't a concern at all. I'll dump $4000 for something that works well, even if it isn't a primary system. But I am planning on doing a lot more LAN gaming out of town, and I just keep thinking that the laptop would be so much easier, and I could play it on the trips(get my airport frag on baby!). But, if the gaming laptops offered are a pile, then I would be wasting my money, and will just build an mATX system and load some lighter games on my daily laptop.
  9. I was given an older Compaq system to play with. It runs excellent save for one issue... Video lag! Ok, here's the specs. 533MHz(Intel, Celeron maybe??), 384MB RAM, 20GB HD, CD/RW DVD Rom, Extremely lightened up copy of Windows XP Pro(everything not needed turned off). I run VLC of course. I have the BIOS settings allocating 8MB video memory(maximum amount). The problem is, no matter what video I play, audio streams fine by video chops and lags something fierce. I've tried new installs of VLC, updating the on board vid card drivers, and all sorts of things to no avail. Now, the kicker is I have the EXACT same image running on an older laptop(Compaq Presario 12XL310), and it runs fantastic! What is bad is the Compaq is only slightly faster at 600MHz(celeron for sure), but has only 64MB RAM with 8MB allocated to video. So, anyone have any other ideas? I can't think of anything. I may try Kubuntu on it since all it does is basic surfing and playing my favorite shows ripped to disc(Hak5, PP, 1337). I had issues with it on the lappie I'm guessing were memory related, so I am a bit hesitant. Edit: It's not an Intel after all. It's an AMD K6 3D.
  10. So, I'm thinking of doing some of the game-con's and large LAN parties. My question is, my current system is a PITA to load and take along. So, I'm looking at 2 options... 1) Build a newer small form factor system.... 2) Buy a good gaming laptop(recommendations here would be good, otherwise, I"m set on Alienware). Now, keep in mind this isn't going to be my primary system. However, I have been thinking the laptop would be nice for when I just want to disappear for a few hours. I do have another laptop already for general use(low end Compaq). So, what is the general idea? I'll be honest, I'm leaning towards the laptop, since a mouse and keyboard can be added and taken with. But, I have no idea how well the gaming laptops actually run, and what kind of issues they would have at a LAN party. Thanks guys for any info!
  11. Seriously, I had an old 286 that was always green. Same thing as the amber ones, but green instead. Never saw another one. I should add, this was an UPGRADE from my badass Tandy Color Computer III with a wopping 128k of memory!! Both systems were bought new by my parents, and wound up being mine shortly after.
  12. Forums are fixed, YAY!! So, I've been lurking a lot. I'm a huge fan of Hak. 5. Anyhow, I would give a bio, but I just put it in the introduce yourself thread. Great site guys, keep it up!
