  1. I can defiantly attest to it being an acquired taste. A few years ago I absolutely despised beer, but drinking it casually from time to time you start to enjoy it more and more. If you're new to beer drinking, I would suggest having some munchies around to take the bite off of some of the beer out there like pretzels or chips, or have one with dinner. Defiantly try some of the better kinds out there; the spectrum of beer goes from battery acid to nectar of the gods, just have to find one you enjoy.
  2. I haven't cleaned up my desktop in awhile... been working on getting a linux game server running ;) Ubuntu linux running XGL (can't see the crazy effects in this shot)
  3. Hell , I would just guess what happens in the book and say screw the notes and movie.
  4. Why not just use the spark notes? Or better yet, read the book!
  5. I wouldn't want dual power supplies unless you actually need it for some reason, it would just add bulk and noise to the existing system. There isn't a whole lot you can do in terms of modding a power supply. Personally, i'd just keep them around and use them in future projects (perhaps your own arcade machine).
  6. WPA is very secure compared to WEP, you can't make the remark that it's easier to crack then WEP. WEP is totally broken and can be cracked within a matter of minutes. If a router is setup with WPA and a *strong* password (the flaw you were speaking of only works with really weak passwords) it's very secure, much more so then WEP. If WPA2 is available as an option, use that instead.
  7. I love the title of the video. Really pulls everything together.
  8. Are they running a BF2 server now?
  9. That would never work. That's like saying you can go to to a store and purchase / steal whatever you feel like, but if you get caught stealing you have to pay the retail price and be done with it. Almost more of an incentive to steal things.
  10. Is that a G36C airsoft on the top of the desk?
  11. I have A+ certification under my belt, and should have Network+ done by july or so. A+ was pretty easy, but defiantly be sure to purchase vouchers online for the test, it makes everything a lot cheeper and you also get practice exams with it, which help a lot for the obscure stuff you need to know. Network+ seems a little more difficult, but it's a great primer into the world of networking. Teachers you quite a bit of stuff from the ground up, a great jumping off point. The reason I like getting certifications is because as a student, I work durring the summers rather then take classes. I can simply work on these on the side ,which in the end will help to set me apart from my competition come graduation time. Plus, like I mentioned before, it's a good way to learn a particular subject from start to finish and you get something that confirms you know the required topics.

I've never had a problem with it, and I install various distro's many times throughout the year. Generally when you're going through the setup menu you can choose empty space from your windows partition, or unformatted space to install everything to. Usually I use something like partition magic and resize any existing partitions before I go to install linux. Often makes the process easier.
  13. I've gotten a free iPod and a nintendo DS from these free sites, and don't get any spam. Some of the offers are legit if you put fourth the effort to do them and are worth the time in alot of situations. The DS was a godsend on the 12 hours of plane time / layover in airports over the last week. Oh, and I get PC Magazine, Computer Shopper, and Stuff magazine for free as well.

I use windows primarily but use Linux on the side some just to mess around. Linux has alot going for it and with popular distros like Ubuntu it's gotten a hell of alot better over the years. That said, it still does take more effort / knowledge to get working properly. Dual booting is the answer, and it's not difficult at all to setup. Every major linux distro can automatically set it up for you.
  15. Most of this discussion relies on sniffing the password as he enters it into the router. Even if you captured the traffic, it wouldn't be of any use. Most all modern routers use encryption (https) when you go to login to them. If it's correctly implemented you'll have a hell of a time decrypting it. Best bet is either brute force or put a key logger on his pc to snatch the password, and use social engineering to get him to login to it.
  16. Yeah, that's a pretty serious flaw on alot of webservers. Hopefully we can get this patched soemtime in the next year or two.
  17. Definatly an improvement, but the metal peices seem a little outa place. Maybe i'm just too used to seeing that type of metal on farm buildings and the like. Can't wait to see it in action.
  18. Sorry I haven't been around much in the last few days, i've been out of town. Once I get back later this week i'll try and update the main post with all the relevant links.
  19. Wow. Not the game, but the expression. He's damn lucky that didnt hit him. I wonder if the guy with all the guns is ex military, or if he just really likes guns.

    Hello!

If you've got a decent systems administrator at school you probably won't be able to hack the machines there (not to mention that it could lead to legal problems). Defiantly use the old machine you've got lying around there to play with. Setup some clean install of something like Windows 2k or XP without any service packs or updates, then have fun.
  21. Thanks for the info. BTW, what distro are you using?
  22. If it helps people i'm happy to pitch in.
